I noticed that their benchmarks have 4xMSAA enabled, and if I am not mistaken Alan Wake uses deferred rendering, so perhaps that is why performance is relatively low.
It's supposedly not as costly (in terms of performance impact) as what BF3 is using, but I guess it still affects the framerate significantly enough. In that case sticking with FXAA should have huge performance gains.

That's just.... no.

If crossfire scales properly, i should be fine with 2x MSAA running it at 60fps^^

I think that was to be expected, actually.

1. Alan Wake has a solid engine and already was the most demanding game on the 360 (derp of war and epic can go fuck themselves, they weren't forced to render it at 540 fucking p) running at the equivalent of low/low medium settings from what the PC version seems to.

2.You can't expect 1:1 results on the same hardware on consoles and PC. Case in point you'll never run TW2 or Crysis on X1800XT and 512 mb ram on PC on low/medium and 720p. (I think you knew all that but worth pointing it out)

Seems pretty legit.

The hell it was to be expected Rolling Eyes Go troll elsewhere*. AW-360 was indeed running at 960x540 - there was a huge brouhaha about it back when the game launched and people started picking it apart - but then, so are a significant amount of other 360 games; including Halo 3. Does that mean Halo 3 is more technically advanced and demanding? Really? I stand by what I say; I've seen nothing that Remedy has added that would suddenly make the game require bleeding edge hardware just to maintain playable framerates .. ergo, either PCGH is wrong or the game is poorly optimised.

We'll find out in a few days, I'm hoping PCGH are wrong because I really did enjoy the 360 version and would love to snag it for the PC -- but I won't pay for a shoddy port.

Consider this the last time you and I converse as you have nothing else to say to me.

ING video preview I saw suggested the game runs rather well, though. I guess we'll see what's what soon enough.

The heck? Remedy had a nearly complete version of "Alan Wake" running in Windows Vista back in 2008. The 7970 didn't even exist back then.

Aye, I saw the same vid.. and was very impressed! =)

~edit~

OM FUCKING NOM NOM!! Shocked Funnily enough though, despite how much more improved the PC version looks.. it actually does lose some of the atmosphere because of it. Weird.

Nah. Its the same except for anisotropy and resolution.
It looks stunning on 360 and runs great.
I very well remember playing Alan Wake on my ex-360, and it absolutely looked a lot worse than that.

Maybe she have shitty tv? Or wrong resolution set in xbox or something. Game looks gorgeus on console.

^^^ Teehee... still think it looks the same?

Indeed, why does it seem to be much less foggy (atleast in that vid) in the PC version.. The fog makes it more scary tbh..

It's not a case of less fog, there's the same amount.. it's just that the PC version is clear and not all blurred up. That's both a good and bad thing, good for the visual quality (die vaseline die!!!!!) but bad because it actually does lose some of the ambient atmosphere. Oh and the source link from the YT vid;

http://www.dsogaming.com/news/alan-wake-pc-vs-x360-comparison-video/#more-17783

Quote:

YouTube’s member, ‘shinnntube’, went ahead and made a comparison video between the PC and the X360 version. Although the preview version does not include all the re-touched textures that Remedy has added to the game, we can clearly see a better terrain and environment on the PC. Alan Wake’s coat also looks better than the one found in the X360 and generally speaking, there is a noticeable improvement in the game’s graphics. Alan Wake PC is slated for a February 16th release. Enjoy!

Just in case anyone hasn't seen it yet, the PC footage is taken from the IGN commentary preview.

Not usually, no, but watch the video and see for yourself -- it actually does work, especially when you're playing the game.

People are coming out of the woodwork and slowly trying to create an argument that they prefer the "cinematic" looks of the 360 version.

Time to start up the comfy couch and 10k gaming computer fallacies while you are at it.

Woodwork? Heh, funny that.. considering I owned and played this game a great deal of time sooner than most around here -- and I never once said I preferred the 360, cinematic or otherwise, making snap judgements based off a single video is... ergh, no, I'll wait and play the game properly, all I said was that some of the atmosphere is lost -- and it certainly looks that way. As for fallacies? I hate sofa gaming, have all my consoles running from the same PC monitor as my desktop -- speaking of; my i5-25k, 8GB Vengeance, EVGA GTX570 (as well as plenty of other miscellaneous gear) didn't even cost a tenth of that, so don't ascribe those fallacy arguments to something I've said or intimated. I'm not Jim Derpling or an IGN editor/journalist.

Altogether far too many trolls "crawling out of the woodwork" lately. People with nothing to do around here except cause shit Since when did this site become ISOnews? Seems like all I'm doing lately is shooting down lame, weak ass trolling attempts. Grow the hell up and move the hell on, seriously.

When I first finished alan wake on a borrowed xbox I thought to myself, what an epic game, wish I could play it on a pc! And now I can! (still no preorder though Rage )
I too prefer playing my games on a PC, I'm accustomed to it because of all my years of gaming on a PC. I think people say it's better on this or that only because that is what they're used to.

What blur are you refering to? You must be confusing it with the awesome anti-aliasing filter!
