Managed to get the DLC and CK installed on my Russian copy via VPN, once initialized just disconnect and they download fine Smile

Skyrim runs as fine as before with steam_appid set @ 72850, no problems here.

CK runs fine with steam_appid set @ 202480, fine also, but herein lies the problem. Because the CK executable is installed in Skyrim directory, along with main program file, one cant have two steam_appid files residing there to run either??

I suppose I could just change number to suit depending on which I want to run, but a bit of a pain lol... Razz

I have managed to get both working somehow. I run Skyrim by using skse_loader.exe to start the game, while having the app-id set to the CK - I can run both quite happily.

YMMV though, I don't specifically understand WHY this works... it just does. Laughing

It's just a mod, it's not complicated at all is it? Smile

ESP files load the BSA files just as always, even better would be to use ini editing (That link I posted above.) so that this "mod" does not overwrite any custom textures you have by forcing the files to load over what you use in the unpacked game directory. Very Happy
(Ie remove the esp files and integrate the bsa files in the resource list in Skyrim.ini nearly exactly the same as archive invalidation for the previous games.)

Well it's not acting like a mod, the option in the launcher is grayed out...

Add [Launcher] bEnableFileSelection=1 at the top of the SkyrimPref.ini in your My Games folder (Documents).

So, apparently you need to add "HighResTexturePack01.bsa, HighResTexturePack02.bsa," to the sResourceArchiveList variable in the [Archive] section of Skyrim_default.ini (installation folder) and Skyrim.ini (my games\skyrim folder) for the custom texture packs to effecfively replace textures from the official hd pack.

Well, you could have said one word:

Wikipedia says:

But who knows with all these lies nowadays. Maybe it's still based on Gamebryo.

I will try the new textures under XP as soon as possible. Imo there's no logical reason why they shouldn't work with XP. Smile

Thanks

Yeah... Since the game is Steamworks (which requires Steam to be installed), all mods have to run with the Steam version, otherwise legit users can't mod the game. Smile

Oh, and, no, no special changes afaik.

To those like me who downloaded the 4 files (2 .esp's and 2 .bsa's)

Found this on the net:

Put them into your Skyrim/Data folder

1) open the "SkyrimPrefs.ini" file in C:\Users\xxxxxxx\AppData\Local\Skyrim\My Games\Skyrim (or my documents\my games\skyrim)

2) add this to the TOP of the file:

[Launcher]
bEnableFileSelection=1

you should now be able to select mods in the regular skyrim launcher, in the "data files section". (make sure "load loose files" is checked as well in the "data files" section

3) (optional) if using the high resolution pack and want to use other texture mods as well, follow these steps:

Step 1) - Disable the two ESPs, HighResTexturePack01.esp and HighResTexturePack02.esp under the "Data Files" section in the launcher. (Uncheck each box)

Step 2) - Add (or modify) this entry to your Skyrim.ini file located in C:\Users\xxxxxxx\AppData\Local\Skyrim\My Games\Skyrim (or my documents\my games\skyrim):

[Archive]
sResourceArchiveList=Skyrim - Misc.bsa, Skyrim - Shaders.bsa, Skyrim - Textures.bsa, HighResTexturePack01.bsa, HighResTexturePack02.bsa, Skyrim - Interface.bsa, Skyrim - Animations.bsa, Skyrim - Meshes.bsa, Skyrim - Sounds.bsa
sResourceArchiveList2=Skyrim - Voices.bsa, Skyrim - VoicesExtra.bsa

Again, the .ini file you need to edit is in your /documents/my games/skyrim folder.. Not your Skyrim installation directory.

hope this helps!

Tried this method and apparently it works, honestly i'm not sure as i didn't notice much differences in the graphics. Anyhow, the "load loose files" in the data files section is always unchecked when you launch the launcher again...

skse_loader bypasses the protection? Oh dear lol - this even allows achievements in Steam too without bothering with a VPN!

Shhh... just don't tell Valve...

Thanks for the reply. Broke down and bought steam version - the 33% off sale and the simple click of "add to cart" made it to difficult to resist (no willpower). Though it wasn't the best time for me to buy it, the developers certainly deserve it!

I think I may be downgrading with the graphics though as I was formerly using the Serious HD Retexture Landscape 2048x2048 mod...will have to investigate further.

There's nothing stopping you from continuing to use it =) All existing mods will continue to work - especially texture stuff.

I'm gonna try to make an addition to Breezehome and add a new room that will have all the crafting tools you need (workbench, grindstone etc.) as well as some other stuff. But damn, Bethesda workflow and tools are weird.

Edit: Like for example naming of the stuff.

WRIntBlablabla, yes once you get ahold of it it's kinda easy but it's quite confusing now.

This may be some useful info (from wr_berg over at nexus):

Blow by blow.

How to use the new Official Hi-Res texture pack with user created mods:

1. Disable or delete the esps that came with the official texture pack.

2. Backup then open
SteamApps\Common\Skyrim\Skyrim_default.ini
&
Documents\My Games\Skyrim\Skyrim.ini

3. Change this in both files:
[Archive]
sResourceArchiveList=Skyrim - Misc.bsa, Skyrim - Shaders.bsa, Skyrim - Textures.bsa, Skyrim - Interface.bsa, Skyrim - Animations.bsa, Skyrim - Meshes.bsa, Skyrim - Sounds.bsa

To this:
[Archive]
sResourceArchiveList=Skyrim - Misc.bsa, Skyrim - Shaders.bsa, Skyrim - Textures.bsa, Skyrim - Interface.bsa, Skyrim - Animations.bsa, Skyrim - Meshes.bsa, Skyrim - Sounds.bsa, HighResTexturePack01.bsa, HighResTexturePack02.bsa

4. Save both files.

Now user created mods will be able to override what they need to override in the official texture pack.
