beta would continue to run up until release anyway, if they announced it today, it would still be in 2 months. they dont need to go "gold", for all we know DVD images might already be ready, they just patch it up to latest build.

The new battlenet features for item sales looks like a very plausible reason for delay, also, i've i was blizzard I would keep it a secret as the real reason for a delay, fans would be pissed. Think the game will be out soon now.

With soon I mean 2-4 months. My point is that I think it is very plausible that the real reason for the delay is not the game not being finished, but that the item for real money market system is not ready. It has not been done before and legal/security issues can be a pain I think, moreover since they want a worldwide release. It makes a lot more sense then the "game needs more balancing and we rethink stats after 7 years of development" .
We have implemented changes which will greatly improve the game experience and final release will live up to the highest expectations. We expect launch to be a big opportunity for Blizzard. More details will be announced in the coming weeks.

We've only ever said "early 2012". And we just decided we'd need until Q2 this week. Seems like the conference call was as good a place as any to announce that.

I wouldn't give a shit if i actually had anything in that certain genre to play. But no H&S has been released for ages and i've already played the other ones to infinity and beyond.
hey believe me, i am as big of a diablo geek as they come, playing d2 for over 7 years on a daily base, even making money by selling items and suiciding several lvl 95+ HC chars "just for the kicks".
But i learned with blizzard, dont wait for it too much, just kinda "let it happen" ^^.
