How about our first game be a tribute to our favourite gaming platform, the PC? Lets make something we ourselves would love to play Very Happy

1 and 2 are still amazing.

OK. Moving on.

Right now, as things stand: the project will be for the PC, XNA shall be the platform, and we write our own 2d engine, but borrowing libraries if a task seems too time-consuming/beyond our experience.

Any objections, or can we move on?

Was impressed by what it can do in Angry Birds.

Java for 2D game is fine.

java is SHIT
c# or c++

java is just to slow. Its also harder to develop than C#, which is way easier

Or maybe you should tell notch that he can't make Minecraft in java? Because obviously he doesn't know.

Indeed someone should have told him. Laughing

Thing is, Shole, even if we develop with unity, technically it would be portable, but you can't really make a game, that's small and plays just as good on a PC (KB+mouse) as it does on a phone (touch screen). Not even mentioning the fact, that some game concepts that work on a PC won't work on a phone. And the reverse. We don't have the time and experience to do something multiplatform for our first project. Stick with one, make it good.

i didn't mean pc<->phone platform independent, but phone<->phone platform independent
wp7, android and ios all have different dev languages and requirements
making a pc game makes everything easier of course - unless someone insists on linux/mac support

Linux support is always good, but let's not promote Macs with our awesome games, lest people start buying them just for our games, and then how would you look in the mirror? Cool Face

I worked on a couple of XNA things before, at that there were no good graphic engines and you might as well write everything yourself as it's hardly worth the effort, might have changed though. However, a physics engine would be highly recommended if we need it.

I checked out, what I found, and all the good stuff created in XNA are not really shared. What is out there is good for *ahem* inspiring us, but it's not worth using much of the code. Right now though, it's not even certain, that we would need a physics engine at all.

We have basically decided already, that we'd build our own 2d engine on the XNA platform. Unity is indeed easy and good, and multiplatform, but one of the main goals of this all is to get experience for ourselves.

If PC, I'd say XNA and yes, even if it will be an unpopular game and disappear somewhere.

So I'm in for any of the two Smile
