Which codec pack should i get for W7 x64? I'm using MPC Home Cinema.

Maybe i only need to install FFDshow? I can only find a 2002 and a 2004 version of it though, i highly doubt those are the latest releases.. Thx.

VLC is bloated shitware Laughing MPCHC and ffdshow is all you need - some add LAV/MadVR but egh, horses for courses.

MPCHC with MadVR and LAV video decoder = win. Best PQ I can get.

As for VLC, it's awesome for those strange files no player will play.

After recommendations in the win8 thread, I tried PotPlayer today and it's much much better than VLC imo.

Uses less CPU and memory, can be configured to play/pause with single click, you can drag window from video itself, no need to mess with Nvidia settings, motherfucking non-english subs actually show up properly when the correct charset is selected, looks way better, has win7 taskbar integration, is more configurable.

And last but not least it's windows-only, so no lowest common denominator UI/features for macfags' or linuxfags' sake. Very Happy

EDIT: I forgot the 1-second delay that VLC has when adjusting the volume ... wth is that about ?

it's important to note that you can't mix x32 and x64 codecs and software
you can't have x64 mpc and watch videos with it that only have x32 codecs
there's also no real advantage with x64 codecs or players
i would recommend just sticking with x32 mpc and ffdshow

I just install the latest xvid-codec and I'm done.

MPCHC and/or VLC. I mainly use the xvid codec to encode (when asshole scene only release x264 I have to reencode to xvid so I can watch them on my Phillips 5990).
