How the hell could you have managed to decrypt that? interesting info however, still I wonder how that was done, now I'm curious.
(Was there anything of the game available last week at all?)
I'll see if I can find any online stores but I guess if you haven't heard anything there might not be much for now besides Steam, (Gamersgate UK) or EA but it'll probably change.
EDIT: Green Man Gaming has it come to think of it but I don't think they send the keys early.

(Though Gamersgate is cheaper by a little bit it seems - http://www.gamersgate.co.uk/DD-KOARUK/kingdoms-of-amalur-reckoning-uk )

just to clearify, by decrypting i mean the release date check you won't be able to run the game without a key

The freakin' horrible inventory is something that pissed me a lot and I didn't even finish the demo. It's just so horrible and awful.

How did you manage to do it without the encryption keys? Can you provide any proof?

Say goodbye to my money. |
Why? Because he is telling the truth? PC piracy > consoles piracy. The fact that consoles games leak earlier has nothing to do with it - it's all about the numbers.
On the side note: 4.5 millions copies of pirated Witcher 2? Damn, that's huge. |
Urgh.
Off topic, but it's the same old piracy fallacies.
Console games leaking earlier has a lot to do with it, actually. Day 0 piracy is worse than Day 1, because a lot of people who would legitmately buy the game don't want to wait a few days for it to be released, when they can pirate it and play it straight away.
And that Witcher 2 number? Not only estimated, but doesn't take into account those who would've never bought the game, or later bought the game, or just wanted to try it to see if they liked it. It's not all about the numbers - it's all about the lost sales, which are an unknown. |
The music industry did the same song and dance about how much their sales were being hurt by downloads, but the exact opposite was true, sales increased over the same period they complained.
Console publishers do the same thing over second hand sales. They go to great lengths letting everyone know how badly they cut into their sales, they make online passes, day one dlc, etc to try to stop it. Yet console games sell more than ever. They just complain because they see something worth complaining about.
Once the next generation of consoles has DRM that stops 2nd hand sales completely they will start complaining about piracy next. It's a never ending cycle.
Reckoning guy is still salty over Titan Quest, which was a game that had good word of mouth but zero marketing. No one heard of it, but it's the pirates fault people didn't buy it! If Reckoning doesnt sell well it will be pirates, not that it's a previously canceled console game from like 2006 being sold for $60

Ah I forgot about that Riptide, Steam and decryption it via that other Portal 2 based utility could work, I'll have to check up on that immediately.
EDIT: Nope, no key available that way.
(Unless it was recently pulled.)

No it's a different utility that reads the NCF files and decrypts matching preloaded data, it's not 100% reliable and it doesn't usually work since the binaries (exe file and such) are normally added just as the game unlocks (Not to mention the day-1 patch that's rather common now.) but it has it's uses, still it too does require a decryption key to be present before it can work with the files.

Was called Ascension, there was some leaked footage out but it's much harder to find now.
Big Huge Games were working on Ascension since 2006 or 2007, which was bought by THQ in 2008, then cancelled a year later, then they shopped it around and 38 studios bought it and rebadged it as "Kingdoms of Amalur" as a lead in to their MMO franchise.
It's 99% the same game which Ken Rolston (aka a crazy idiot) designed which is why it looks like a several year old 360 game. Hell the game still focuses on that "well of ascension" or whatever it is in the demo, they probably didn't even change up the plot much

The prototype movies I mentioned in a previous post and the actual cinematics are nearly identical although I understood Ascension to still be "on" and readied to be the MMO part of the franchise.
(Since there's a lot of backstory added and the actual world map is pretty vast compared to the little part Reckoning takes part in.)
