I'm just hoping Techland release Dead World in a shorter timeframe, rather than making us wait another five years like they did with Island.

Yes. Hope that happens aswell. Hope it doesnt go like the last Call of Juarez tho...ie hopefully it wont be crap.

My only worry is, that if its gonna switch locations, then it will take them alot of time to map the world.

For me biggest minus for Dead Island is possibility to change FOV without 3rd party files and tools.

Will this game become somewhat interesting or the whole game is like the start of it? Yeah, the combat and the exploration is nice and all that... but it feels so damn cheap with all the stupid respawning, level scaling and what not. I kept it installed and modded since it was released. I played a bit a week ago or so and it's just so boring. The idea of the game is nice, but the execution is just abysmal. It simply sucks.

True the mechanics are a bit static or how to describe them, not sure how to best describe it but it's a bit rough.

Patches have helped even it out a bit and mods can do some improvement but there are a variety of hardcoded settings like just the respawn system.

I enjoyed my playtrough of it but I keep fiddling around the island now in my current playtrough without advancing far at all other than completing the basics (Lifeguard station and light house bases up and working properly, finished or how to describe them.)

But yes it gets a bit repetitive during longer play sessions, some parts are a bit worse than others however like the last chapter or a certain sewer section.
(Or how zombies advance and new types / stages are added, it's a bit overly scripted here.)

With more polish, depth, variety and no level-scaling (or at least in a less obvious form) it could have been absolutely brilliant.

It's still an enjoyable game, but in its current state it didn't impress me that much. I found it a wasted opportunity Razz

I think I'll delete it then. I have all the mods I made and used in another folder so if I feel like trying it again some other time, I'll have those ready I guess. Maybe I'll like the next game more if there will ever be one.

modifying a file is all you have to do actually.
but it isn't hard to implement that into game settings either, i give you that.

Yeah but then again you can't be 100% sure that at some point that might be considered as "cheating or hacking". DI is not worth the risk.

If you're talking about the legit Steam version, you won't be banned for that because you don't modify an existing file. You just need the file with the FoV value extracted in the same path as it is in the .pak file it comes from.

You and I both! I loved the first game, thought it was amazing up until the last chapter... where it degenerated fast. It's a shame they scrapped the dynamic damage system they originally had and I'm hoping any subsequent followup doesn't take another five years to develop Very Happy

+1 .....one of my top games of recent years, even with the bungled release, small niggles and crappy ending.

hope they'll focus on town sections like in the second chapter
easily the best part of the game
could have some suburbs, a town like that and then some modern city section
some parks in between perhaps

No sequel it seems..

Quote:
"We are neither working with Yager on Dead Island 2 nor do we have any contractual agreement with Yager about any project at this point," said Deep Silver development director Guido Eickmeyer.

"Yager and Deep Silver do have a very close relationship, based on personal and professional connections between the parties. There is a legitimate chance that we will - at some point - work together on a title - and I would not even exclude the possibility that this could be something within the Dead Island franchise," he went on to tease.

But, just to clarify, he added "We have neither something in place or in discussion between the parties that would explain such a news, nor do we have Dead Island 2 in concept or production with external partners."

At the very least, I wish they'd put out a modkit so people could create their own towns and areas. The game is excellent (IMO....) and would love more content for it.
