The only point I realise is that in every single thread on this board for every single game, there's a bunch of you whining about the graphics not being good enough. Definitely graphics whores if you ask me because if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and sounds like a duck; it's a duck You'll notice that I haven't actually defended this game's graphics at all (well, I've said "they look fine to me, a mix of Fable 2 and 3" but that's just an observation and my opinion, not an outright defence) just that I marvel at the amount of complaining instead.
Like I've already said; the visuals are better than in any Blizzard game, yet I don't see you guys in Blizzard threads throwing wobblies about the graphics ^_^ |
Now, I'm not a blizzard fanboy, you know that (far from it, actually ... closer to "hater"), nor am I a graphics whore (though I like it, when a game looks good) - but there's no way this looks better than sc2 for example.

I like great graphics. They're obviously not as important as gameplay or story, but they are as important as sound/music, since when properly done, they have the power to immerse you and strengthen the other two.
The graphics in this game are very poor, not only technically but also aesthetically, and I'm really tired of the copy/paste of the current rpg's. There's so much diversity in the world and these people insist in copying the same formula over and over and over.
It's like trying to make a new fps multiplayer by copying Cod and BF or make a new mmo by copying Wow. From what i've seen, and the demo i played there's nothing there. Graphics are bad, sound is generic and the gameplay is terribly consolish.
It's really funny to see the people that rightly bashed swtor for being another wow clone with lousy button mashing combat being excited for this game with even worse button mash and auto aim combat.
It's impossible after playing Skyrim to take a second look at this game. I'd just roll another char.

Why? Because he is telling the truth? PC piracy > consoles piracy. The fact that consoles games leak earlier has nothing to do with it - it's all about the numbers.
On the side note: 4.5 millions copies of pirated Witcher 2? Damn, that's huge. |
Urgh.
Off topic, but it's the same old piracy fallacies.
Console games leaking earlier has a lot to do with it, actually. Day 0 piracy is worse than Day 1, because a lot of people who would legitmately buy the game don't want to wait a few days for it to be released, when they can pirate it and play it straight away.
And that Witcher 2 number? Not only estimated, but doesn't take into account those who would've never bought the game, or later bought the game, or just wanted to try it to see if they liked it. It's not all about the numbers - it's all about the lost sales, which are an unknown.

PC Gamers should pirate console games in large numbers, whether they play it or not, to even out the odds.

Can be pre-loaded now, it's around 7.7 GB but I'll know more when it's done.
EDIT: The .par file thing seems to relate to Origin and the copy protection recently used by them, kinda like SecuROM (Maybe it is SecuROM.) though it doesn't really tell that much.

You're an idiot of you think that's the truth.
There's so many flaws in the reasoning of the article.
For starters, The Witcher 2 sold over a million copies and it's expected to sell over 2 million during its life span *on PC alone*. This shows it's perfectly possible to be profitable as long as your game is GOOD. The problem right there, is that too many devs treat the PC as a third rate platform so we get shoddy ports of console games instead of games that make the best use of our PCs.
Another thing, is a lack of respect from publishers. People don't like paying money when they feel they're being treated like scum which is what all this DRM is doing.
And also, the actual piracy figures mean SQUAT. NOTHING, ZILCH. It only shows the popularity of a game - and if the game proves to be GOOD too, you'll see those that can afford it, buying the game anyway. Skyrim, for example, sold tons on PC yet piracy the first week was very high as well with people trying it out that way. Don't forget piracy has replaced demos a great deal and none of the games mentioned had demos.
When you consider that, I think one people out of 3 buying the game isn't bad at all. Seriously, if the industry remains so clueless, it's them that are to blame for poor sales. Piracy isn't anywhere near as bad as they think it is - DRM, however, IS. I haven't bought a single Ubisoft game in years and I don't buy any game with Securom either unless it's heavily discounted.
The platforms where piracy DOES and DID make a huge impact, is portable gaming. The Nintendo DS and PSP for example - and why? Because a LOT of their games come with a "portable mark-up" meaning you pay almost full price for a game that would be $5 on the Xbox Arcade store. Or remakes of games everyone has already played. Or shallow games that people might enjoy playing for a bit but not want to pay for.
But for games such as The Witcher, Skyrim, etc. piracy has a lot smaller impact than you might think because there's so many linked factors. For poor games such as The Reckoning, I'll bet the piracy to sales ratio will be a lot worse because, frankly, the game is generic as hell.

Multi-platform developers or at least publishers probably also see the gap between console sales and PC sales and though it's not always accurate to compare them it probably skews things somewhat.
I'm not sure how to explain it best but say the console version sells 2 - 3 million copies compared to the PC's 500.000 to 1 million copies and it probably doesn't matter much to the devs or publisher that the console release sees upwards of a million pirated copies and the PC version less, they would probably still see PC piracy as the larger issue just because the lower sales.
(Which is a bit unreasonable but I think I'm fairly accurate with this, it's down to sales and profits mostly or how to best describe it.)

For a (somewhat.) more recent game Morrowind used to have both race and gender defined base statistics, usually a bit generic with lower strength for females but higher intelligence, however they also had separate height / weight scales which was hardcoded to determine a few statistics such as overall speed and damage done.
(Usually with men being taller and more buff but I think there was some exceptions.)
Oblivion as far as I remember only differed in height and weight and for Skyrim I'm pretty sure it's the same albeit even less varied.
EDIT: Morrowind also had some quests and encounters that differed depending on gender, that rogue (Nels Lendo I believe.) and some parts of the main quest and certain faction quests.
(Morrowind however took a more realistic route and had very little variation between equipment for genders other than that "la femme fatale" pack which added gold and "domina" leather armor plus somewhat exaggerated female models to certain base armors, Netch, Legion plate and Legion chain I believe though this was modded pretty quickly and was also included in Tribunal - albeit minus the Gold and Domina armors but with the Adamantium armor and helmet addons.)

I wasn't really thinking much about this title but then I saw a couple of early reviews. It's getting VERY good reviews. Looking forward to it now.
