Yeah, they did invite a loads of people, 100.000 to be exact
http://www.diablofans.com/news/1077-100000-diablo-iii-beta-invites/
Quote: | We recently invited 100,000 more North American players to the Diablo III beta, so we recommend that those who have opted-in check their Battle.net accounts to see if they were chosen.
Please be aware that with this large wave of invites we expect there could be an increase in the number of phishing attempts. Some unscrupulous individuals send out falsified emails purporting to be from Blizzard, but are in fact meant to steal your login credentials. For more information on how to identify these emails please refer to our Battle.net Security site. One easy way to ensure your invite is legit is to avoid clicking on links in any invite emails you receive, and instead log in to your Battle.net account and see if you have a Diablo III beta license attached. If there’s no license you can be sure the email you received was not from Blizzard.
If you didn’t receive an invite, never fear! We’re going to continue to give away beta invites, so be on the lookout for promotions, contests, and giveaways on our properties as well as at your favorite fansites. We’ll have more information about these global giveaways as well as regional betas in the coming weeks.
Congratulations to those of you who recently got into the beta! Please don’t forget to use the Beta Feedback and Beta Bug Report forums (and the Technical Support forum if you run into trouble running the game), and for those who haven’t gotten in yet, we wish you the best of luck! |

Yeah where is some love for EU? Want to try it out, looks a lot of fun from what i have seen it. Not so sure about all these late changes, beta has allready last 6months, full version can't be that far away, but with big changes like that anything is possible.

Other regions will also get invites. They simply started with US. Just wait a little bit, it's coming.
(It's state in that article + they confirmed it a second time on twitter.)
The beta doesn't seem terribly long anyway (sadly), waiting a little won't change much.

as far as I know they have no EU servers running yet.. I guess they want to hold off on inviting lots of EU players until that's up.
according to blizz diablo can't lag and stuff always happens instantly for you but latency is bound to have some impact behind the scenes that they want to avoid.
if they invite this many US people though it must mean they're ramping up server capacity so EU servers might not be too far behind.

...Yea that's definitely not the case, attacks and skills are server-side. It's not really noticeable unless your ping is above 300 (servers are flooded today, kinda to be expected).

I'm not really all that interested mate .. I was just explaining for russ80. I preferred Diablo 1 to Diablo 2 and as much as I'd love another hack'n'slash lootathon, I'm not THAT interested - and the whole "always on even for SP play" shtick just irks me anyhow.

Wtf 100K people? That's gotta be the biggest wave yet. The most people i've ever seen online is like two hundred, if bnet is to be believed.

It can be annoying...for example I was playing the beta yesterday and for some reason my latency was about 450ms...there was a delay in firing of skills etc, not something you'd expect to encounter in a single-player experience. Very frustrating.

There were a 1000 people playing when I logged in today. Not sure if thats total, or if bnet sorts you in groups or what? But 1000 ppl playing out of 100,000 seems out of odds. Had 50 ms latency, no lag problems.

a lot of people probably don't realize they're in the beta yet. the beta emails pretty much always lag behind so unless you check your battle.net account you probably wouldn't notice for a while.
many of those 100k people are probably random wow players who don't keep up with diablo news.

Yep, got the same feeling. May/June or maybe even April release is imho 99% sure. They have to ship it in June at the latest if they still wanna push Kunf-Fu Panda and SCII expansion this year, 'cause releasing 3 titles during autumn/winter of 2012 is definetely out of the question.
