More importantly is the lack of any qualities that keep you coming back, like those we have in the Anno series.

I am keen to try one of the older Stronghold games or any similar types? I am not really arsed about the warfare side but more the management and economy aspects, which is the best , and, works on Win7 ? The Anno games a real favourite but I am struggling for something similar.

Stronghold Crusader was my favorite and works on Windows 7. You would need to be militaristic, but the original Stronghold did have an economic campaign similar to 3.

Crusader was epic indeed. There is also Crusader Extreme (never tried it). But the original Stronghold is great as well. Basically anything below 2 is fine Smile I so much wanted them to make a good Stronghold, why they release this shit.

Why didn't they just pretty much copy the first game and modernize it a bit with slicker graphics etc?

Well at least they are supporting the game. Although I really can't see this atrocity will ever be playable.
