In case anyone is still unsure about downloading the game, I'd recommend it.

I've played it for a couple of hours now, and I must say that it's by far the funniest game I have played in a while. For those unfamiliar with the game's concept, the game's character (the unnamed Bard) is the perfect anti-hero. He's a snide bastard, and he isn't out to save the world. Instead, your quest is for two things: cash and nookie.

The game plays a lot like Diablo, and for those of you not used to top-down perspective titles, I'm afraid there isn't much to change that. The camera is pretty poorly implemented, rotated by keys and annoying to use at times. It's one of the several bitter aftertastes of a mediocre console port that you'll find here.

Another are the graphics. They certainly aren't bad... models are reasonably well-done (think Soldier of Fortune II) and the world is pretty well-textured and designed, if somewhat linear (another sign of console, umm, goodness.)

The beasties in the game are of several varieties, with a few classes in almost each (humanoid) group, although there isn't much variation in them (for example, an area infested with trow (think shaman and their ilk from DII) will only contain trow. Same for wolves, boars, and the other groups I've encountered so far.

The gameplay, to a World of Warcraft player, seemed unneccessarily cumbersome, despite (or because of) oversimplificarion. Looking for quests was painful, involving the loading times associated with each hut and area, and the quests themselves range from short to pretty long (tip: do NOT be snide with the little douche that gives you your second spell, I found out the hard way.) It's also interesting to know that the Bard has no formal inventory, everything you pick up is either equipped or converted to cash on the spot.

At this point, you're probably asking why you should get this game. The best part of it, and one that in my opinion saves it from being Another Mediocre RPG is the dialogue. Those that do not like dialogue or humor with their games will want to give this one a pass: there will be plenty of both. The game features two dialogue choices: nice and "snarky". Obviously, the funniest dialogue comes from being an ass to people. Unfortunately, this is an RPG, and as such, being a dick will often make your life a lot harder, a lot later down the road (devs claim that some choices will bite you in the ass as much as six hours after making them). The good part of this is that some sequences in the game can get VERY funny if you're an ass (don't want to spoil much for you, but in one sequence acting like an ass will get you set on fire, laughed at by a roomful of people, and "rescued" by a busty barmaid with a pitcher of water. Another interesting thing, is that the Bard is not the only ass nor the only funny character in the game. Some of the things the narrator says (and sometimes the arguments between the Bard and the narrator) gave me a few chuckles.

While I would not spend $50 on it, this game is definitely worth the download, if you're into light RPG's and don't mind a little humor with them.

Damn another console port. I am so goddamn tired of console ports. When will they stop with the nonsense? MAKE THE GAMES FOR PC YOU LAZY CHEAP BASTARDS!

Accelleron, that thing you mentioned, being set on fire and rescued by the barmaid, that's not a result of being snarky, it will happen whatever you do...

Why do they bother with the snarky dialogue option at all??
Who's gonna by snarky and having their asses bitten for the rest of the game?
They should've just skipped the snarky option. I know I'm gonna play nice and be a good boy, because as it usually is in these games, you really DON'T have a choice if you want to enjoy the story to the fullest and complete the game without endless troubles.

Uh, no. You might want to play the game before you say that, because Snarky is the better choice most of the time. If anything, I would ask why did they bother with the nice dialogue option at all. Razz

There's a few times where you don't want to use snarky because it gets an npc killed who would have otherwise given you a reward, but those cases are by far the minority. Normally the worst that happens is you get less silver (and there's times when being snarky also gets you more silver, so even that's balanced out)... not like silver is a problem in the game anyway.

Is there anyone using the computer version that IS able to equip the dual-weild or bow? I figured out that to get the summons for "S" you need to press enter. But I cant figure out how to equip the bow or dual-weild. Press the keys for them just doesnt equip them. And I cant find a official forum for the game either.

And yes, I do have the skills and the weapons for it.

It dont work for me bnf.

Dual Wield, Summoning, Bow all work fine here.
Just press 3 - W for Dual Wield.
I don't need to press enter for summons either, just 2 - D - A for the lightning spider (for example).

The controlls are quite confusing at first.
I would allso suggest to change the keyboard configuration as the dafault caonfiguration isn't very good.

Everyting is controlled with the 'compass menu'.
You press the button to bring up that menu you want, then select the menu item you want by pressing the button for that direction. (By default I think that's the keys a,s,d,w. I have remapped it to the cursor keys)

Some features can be mapped directrely to bottons, so you don't need the compass menu.
All Party commands (attack, follow me, ect...) can be assigned directely to a key. Use them, it saves time in combat.

When you bring up the items menu, you can select 4 submenus (weapons, artefacts, special and songs) from the compass menu, but these submenus also can be asigned directely to a key. Use them to and makes casting and weapon swiching a faster

For Dualwielding you go to the weapons menu, then press North/Up (Default key = w) on the compass menu to select dual wielding. Sword+shiled is South/Down (Default = s), Twohanded weapnos are West/Left (Default = a) and Flais are East/Right (Default = d).

Note that in order to use a Twohanded weapon, a Flail or Dual weapons you need the appropriate skill. Without the skill you can't equip them.

Bows are not in the weapns menu, but in the 'special' Menu.

Summoning works the same way. Open the songs compass menu, select the subcategory, then select the creature you want to summon.

e.g. For the lightening spider bring up the song menu, then East/Right for Magical creatures, then West/Left to select the spider.

Has anyone even found a reason to use anything but dual wield? Flail+Shield and 2H weapons are so slow that you have to block and then counterattack or your swing will be interrupted because the npcs have a faster animation than you and can knock you down/back easily. When you get 3 or so things beating on you, forget about getting in any attack other than a whirlwind (which takes a long time to charge up) or parry. Dual wield (especially with Riposte) never has that problem.

Something else I was wondering if anyone else has gotten further in the game than me: I didn't buy all the maps from the wandering goblin on the world map before doing the Mountain Tower, and now I don't see him at all. Anyone know if he comes back later? I'm not sure how you're supposed to get 3600 silver for each of 4 maps before that point in the game. (Especially since there's another map for the same price in the first town too, and that one you also have to buy before the Mountain Tower or you can't buy it at all)

Before you try insulting anyone by sarcastically naming them "genius", you could ask yourself this question:
"Won't it be ironic that I'm calling someone stupid, seeing as I myself am not able construct a proper English sentence?"

And, even though I'm a big fan of irony, if the answer is "yes", please do not finish whatever it is you were typing, do not pass go, do not collect $200.

It will save you from looking like a complete go-tard.
But hey! Maybe that's the image you were going for. If so, please disregard this message.

Maybe you should ask youself this question:

Is english the native language of everybody on this forum?

As the answer is no, you can't expect everyone to have perfect grammer and syntax. So it makes you look like an insecure prick because you feel the need to reassure yourself by acting superior.

I get your point, but really, all I'm saying is he's making an idiot out of himself.

To get back on topic; too bad about the camera. Is there no way to change it?
It plays much better with a controller (even though I only tested this on the PS2 version).

Oh yeah. No need to act, I just am superior Very Happy

Careful who you're calling an idiot mate ... as far as I'm concerned, I didn't insult you ...

Regarding your sugestion, I asked what more can I delete from the iso to make it a DVD5 ... I already knew that I could put the Sound dir on a separate DVD, but this wasn't the solution I was looking for ...

So next time you come in here and start giving advices, make sure you understand the problem ...

This game is fun, but what isn't fun is that it seems to not be possible to use any weapon besides the sword and shield combination...

The hot menu thing + direction doesn't work for me..... not even when I changed them...

the down button however seems to work, but is actually the enter.... instead of the assigned button.

I've just completed the game with the combo i've mentioned above. Bow+Arrow storm+helpers. It was easy.
