Oh another game that surprised me was The Saboteur. I remember being very sceptic about the game but I really enjoyed playing it despite the few flaws it had. What surprises me most about that game is that a lot of people haven't played it or even heard about it, quite a shame if you ask me

Timeshift. Totally. Totally fun and suprisingly good game. Still amongst most underrated.
And i usually get suprised my adventure games.

Plus 1
Loved the graphics. But I LIKE the rubber look.

+1

Best single player shooter since Half Life 2. AI, weapons, story, it had it all.

Timeshift it is then (the next game i`ll try).

Forgot to mention MDK2 - still one of my all time favourites, and even playing the HD version right now. I usually don`t like cartoonish games and i tried it just out of boredom. maaaan.. i didn`t expect how much sleep i was going to loose the next few weeks. and in my opinion it has one of the best dedicated soundtracks ever (excluding games that have tracklist like FIFA, NFS, Tony Hawk Series)

I gotta go with Heroes of Might and Magic 3, it was the 1st game i had played from the series back in 1999 and i was amazed from the 1st moment (also an inspiration for my nick Very Happy)... and i still got it installed over here. The same basically go for Fallout 1 as well, even as i was pretty young to actually "understand" the game i still played through it and absolutely loved it, the post-apocaliptic scenery, the combat, npc... such a shame i probably won´t experience the same "feeling" with games coming out nowadays. Also Timeshift, as you guys have already mentioned, great game, kinda came out of nowhere.

Glad i checked out this thread, grabbed Call of Cthulhu, i hadn't even heard of it when it came out finally

so far great fun (amnesia owes it a debt for sure)

one small complaint while i don't mind dated graphics in the least ....
it is "squished" on my 16:10 no matter the rez setting
c'est la vie, still lots of fun Smile

edit: and then it hit me i can turn scaling off on my vid card lmao......

Because it's not a game for derps. It's a game that makes the player think, so...

hammerfight surprised me for being so much more than it seemed. skyrim surprised me for still being fun after having most of the rpg streamlined out of it.

It came out the same month as Crysis and it looked better, Played better, was intelligent and fun. An it got Derp scores Laughing

about Call of Cthulhu. ITS AMAZING GAME. Dunno about widescreen resolution, just go with 4:3 res and forece aspect ratio... pink sky is more of a bummer Laughing as a graphical error with new hardware

Geo Defense and Swarm on my iPhone. Love those games.

As for PC, Civ 5 (compared to Civ 4, I'm more hooked), Project Zomboid, Xenonauts, and Empire Total War today (at it's launch, it was crap, but the Devs did a good job of fixing it)

obligatory baldur's gate 2 is the best rpg ever made post.... but seriously a game that surprised me ..hmm online has to be league of legends, although its mainstream now its start was anything but a "sure thing".

As far as offline RPG's go though i think skyrim was a recent surprise, although i still don't like the skill / leveling system.

Risen! Started out as a shitty rpg for me, horrible combat for the first 10min, gave it another go and the game got bettet and better.

One of my fav rpgs ever, most immersive rpg ever.

MW3 and SKyrim surprised me. I thought MW3 campaign would suck balls compared to BF3 but it was epic. As for SKyrim, I bought into the hype over Oblivion a few years back but I just didn't like the game for some reason. So I was expecting another Oblivion with better graphics but man this game kicks so much ass I love it

I didn't think it would be one of my favorite games of 2011 but it is. Really enjoying skyrim a lot

If you like Risen you should try their earlier games, Gothic I and Gothic II. If you don't mind outdated graphics of course.

You know what. MW1 actually surprised me. I expected weak game (only downloaded it, since I was bored at that time), yet it was decent SP experience. It also run smooth on my ancient (at that time) radeon x1600pro. It was sole reason why I tried MW2 later, when I got so heavily disappointed that I don't bother with MW3.

Right, so I acquired Timeshift - and it's a ton of fun so far. Hard too, on Elite. Hard games always take me back in time, and I love that. Only complaint is regenerating health, but meh, I can live with that.

Graphically, it looks pretty good for a 2007 title, which was supposed to be released in 2006. Overall good impression so far.

Does the nforce pc games forum count? Used to be full of intelligent discussion. Stopped lurking for a while, pop back every now and again... Now people say "derp" a lot and cry about consoles.

Terraria. Had a casual fling with Minecraft till it became mindnumbingly boring...Thought Terraria might be the same, ended up saying wth; got it on Steam.

Not. Bad.
