No, I was an affiliate, I earned everytime someone purchased a premium account through my links.
And before you jump on about how I shouldn't make money of piracy, I will tell you that only about half of my content were copyrighted.
I had many downloads of legit stuff through my sites and youtube videos.
Damn, so doing that shit actually pays off :\
How much time was passed till you had that $440 dolllar together? Or more or less, what was the average monthly income from those things?

In the case of filesonic, I had an active upload phase last year for about 6 months, during that time I reach a maximum profit of $2000 per month, only with filesonic, then I moved on to other affiliates, but up until now I still received a residual average of about $500 per month, decreasing every month of course, because I'm not actively uploading there anymore.
As for time spent, you need to use tools to reach this kind of volume, tools like xrumer and scrapebox, but in average, in my active phase, we're talking on about 6 hours a day uploading, promoting links and managing accounts/sites.
Probably not, they don't have a pay per download program, only the companies that did are closing off their affiliate programs or shutting down entirely.
What download medium are you guys using? I have an Fileserve premium account, which probably has another 6 months left. But by the look of things, I don't think they will last that long.
I keep hearing about newsgroups from the people in the Console gaming board. Is it similar to these file sharing sites or Torrents? What kind of speeds to expect?
I won't go back to Torrents, EVER. It's a fucking pain in the ass.
Usenet newsgroups? The thing is, I don't understand how this system works.
It's fairly easy and almost the same as torrents except it costs money, is more private and reliable.
You find a server company you want to use, most of not all of us here use Astraweb. They give you the server address etc. Use a program like you would with torrents, input your login info. Go to an indexing site like you would with torrents, download the .nzb (just like a .torrent) and it starts downloading.
The difference is you are downloading privately, aren't relying on seeders so you'll be able to max out your connection at all times.

Now I understand the motivation for uploading on boards such as warez bb. No wonder thread owners are doing everything they can to keep their threads alive with posts. Wish I had investigated more into this before. There're obvious ways to make lots of money off the web... I feel like I've been under a rock for the past 10 years. :[
