Yeah I agree when it comes to prices in other parts of the world then I havent got a great amount of knowledge, I did look at US prices and they did seem a little steep.

US is fine. It's mainland Europe that's fucked because we're "rich". Half the EU countries are more fucked than the UK or US, whereas other countries (like NL Sad) do have a "recession" but that's barely noticeable. NL has been fine through all this shit and we'll stay just fine because it's always been one of the most stable countries. Meanwhile though, we do pay more for just about everything, so being "rich" means fuckall. It's quite funny when I'm in the UK, walk into H&M or something and see a shirt at 15 quid or 26 Euros (15 quid at current rate is ~18 EUR). Rip Euro consumers off much?

I got three games for Christmas, Batman, BF3 and SKyrim as far as im concerned these were worth every penny.

Like I said, 2011 was pretty good. In 2009 and 2010 however I spent more money on indie titles than AAA titles. How many did you buy in those years? For 2009 I can probably think of 6, maybe 7 titles - and that's including a game like Torchlight which isn't even AAA really (but to say it's indie is also..meh). The highlights of 2009 were NFS:Shift and Batman: AA. Guess what some of this year's highlights are? Right, Shift 2 and Batman: AC.
For 2010 I have to think even harder, because all the best stuff that year were DLC's (Episode from Liberty City, specifically TBoGT) or "small" games like Lara Croft. Besides that it was filled with failure; SC2 being only a third of a game, Mafia 2 being a gigantic piece of crap, ME2..well Razz
And then 2010 also had a lot of "could've been's"; Alpha Protocol could've been great, but the bugs and crappy AI prevented it from being what it should've been.

Like I said, there's a few developers that kick out quality stuff - and they're mostly young studios (SMS was founded 3 years ago, Rocksteady 7), but we sure as hell don't get as many good games as we used to. And it's all down to the consoles. A lot of developers have in fact changed, shifting their attention towards consoles and the audience that comes with it. Bad news for us Smile

Not trying to be a troll here, but am I the only one who thinks that if I were a film, TV, or games maker that I too wouldnt like to see the product that I and many other people spent time making, promoting and putting the product on the shelf, that I would be desperate to stop people pirating it, thus losing me money.

You cant blame these people for trying.

Just my opinion here, I can understand anybody trying to protect their
work
but this proposed law isn't the way to go about it. All the other
debate about Piracy and its crippling effect on economy, or games not being
worth the money is just a side note, the bottom line for me is that their
solution, -->this bill sucks, it is so open to misuse. They need to find another
way. I have been reading up on censorship in different countries and I would
be devastated to lose my free speech, and the access I have now, to have my media
filtered and manipulated . Other governments would follow suit and the original idea
behind this idea would be lost, instead the law would be used to further self-interests
of government and corporations. Corporations act without conscience.

Well I think they realise it isnt popular so they are withdrawing support.

As for freedom of speech I think our govetnments have been slowly withdrawing them since 9/11.

But that another aruement.

I just think they are becoming more desperate, I remember year ago when home computers died out and the only way to pirate a game came at a huge cost for an attachement for your console. now most people can do it and it doesnt cost the earth to do it and its so easy to have access to pirate games and films ect. I personally think the companies are becoming more desperate, as they realise they wont win the software and firmware war against piracy as the harder they make it is seen more as throwing down the gauntlet.

Piracey in my oppinion has exploded in the past 10 yrs.

As someone from the US living in the UK even UK prices seem unreasonable. Last time I lived in Germany was before the Euro, and while things were still more expensive back then; They weren't nearly as bad as they are now.

Quote:
It’s official, tomorrow’s anti-SOPA protest has reached its height: Google will be displaying an anti-SOPA message during the blackout. Google will not actually be blacking out, but instead will display a link to an anti-SOPA, anti-PIPA message on its homepage, presumably in the form of a Google Doodle, but they haven’t said explicitly.

Pussy google Laughing

Anyway today is the day, lets see how boring the internet will be..

New movement: since ESA is still behind SOPA, and they are the guys behind E3, some people in the biz that the legislation would hurt the most got together and decided to not cover and attend E3 until ESA withdraws from SOPA.

Actually, not a bad idea. Hurt them where it hurts the most: their wallets.
