The argument I make on the thread over there (btw, I'm Emoking there) is this:

You can buy Valve games other places... Amazon, play, zavvi, whatever.

You can't buy Mass Effect or Dragon Age DLC anywhere but the BioWare store. This is also why ME3 isn't on Steam, since EA want to continue as the sole point of purchase for DLC.

Valve may force people to use Steam, but EA force people to purchase DLC from only one place, at one price. No shopping around for the consumer looking for the best price.

Viewing monopolies and evil on a gradient, EA is worse than Valve. And neither are perfect.

Also, interestingly, you do get Steamworks games on Origin. Saints Row The Third. Very Happy

Bioware's vision for future RPG's.
Quote:
The vision for us is a broadening of the genre, you see a lot of other genres incorporating features of RPGs, in turn RPGs are incorporating a lot of features from other genres. More action elements there different ways to tell stories, have characters interact for adventure games, shooters and that’s exciting to us. The features of RPGs blend across genres, and its actually making a lot of other games more engaging. In the same way we can make RPGs more engaging and accessible to different audiences by incorporating features that are popular from different genres, and introduce RPGs to new fans that way. But we want to bring our core fans with us on that journey, so it’s not always easy to get a balance that does both but we’re striving to do that.

They want to bring their core fans along... funny, to me it seems they lost their core fans with DA2 for sure.

Where are you based? Here in the UK, Gamersgate appears to be the cheapest, at £31.49.

As far as I remember there was no demo available for Mass Effect 2 so that's still some major progress. Wink

I like action games with some minor RPG elements (Cool Face) and Mass Effect franchise in general so I'm waiting for this one. Not sure if I want to pay for it though. ISO Demo will be the choice for me. (Yes, even after trying out the normal demo first. Bioware cannot be trusted anymore.)

I actually don't give shit about the action vs. RPG battle since I never thought ME was much of an RPG, what I saw of it looked very good. They pulled everything out of the Unreal engine. I might even buy it if I find a cheap key (if that is even possible with Origin) and if it's long enough.

First Kingdoms of Amalur then ME3, EA is surprisingly reviving the tradition of releasing the unknown objects called PC demos, I appreciated the effort Razz

Oh yeah, I forgot that Origin is scanning user's computer for gay porn. Apparently, EA staff ran out of ideas for their upcoming games and personal interests.
