Free of charge

Virgin Media's upgrade will mean customers currently signed up for 10Mbps will be boosted to 20Mbps, while users on 20Mbps and 30Mbps packages will both be upped to 60Mbps.

Those on 50Mbps will be increased to 100Mbps. Customers already on the top 100Mbps tariff will be raised to 120Mbps - the fastest speed Virgin Media is currently able to provide.

The company said bandwidth usage limits will also be doubled to accommodate the increased speed.

That's awesome! I'm glad the download limits are increasing too. I'm currently on 30Mb.

Assuming from your upper case S(s = second) and that you write in a complaining manner, your ISP doubled your speed to 4 MegaBit per sceond (4Mb/s) and not 32 MegaByte per second (4MB/s) Smile

@Pumpy: this is exactly what they did to me some time ago, doubled the speed from 2Mb/s to 4Mb/s . As you can imagine the difference was imperceptible. Slow before, slow now Laughing

Such speeds and they still enforce download limits? Surprised

The 50mbps and 100mbps packages currently have no limits, and they are apparently doubling the limits for the lower packages.

Yes, because comparing an ISP in one country to an ISP in a completely different one makes total sense.

The limits can be a pain sometimes but they only exist at peak times, 10am-3pm (currently 10GB DL for me) and then 4pm-9pm (currently 5Gb DL). If you go over the limit, you're throttled by 75% for 5 hours.

So if you download a 15GB movie between 10.00 and 15.00 you are throttled?
That sucks.

Yep, it sucks.

Got this email:
Quote:
Good news - we're giving you even faster broadband, for less.

You're already getting the UK's fastest widely available broadband, and starting this summer we'll be starting the roll-out to boost your speeds from up to 100Mb to up to 120Mb. We'll also be lowering the price of your broadband package in April to match the price of our 50Mb Broadband XXL packages.

These are nice extras we do to make you smile. We call them Virgin Media tickles, and we only give them to people we know and like - our customers.

Our ongoing commitment to offering the UK's fastest broadband.

Virgin Media offers the fastest broadband speeds in the UK*, as proven by Ofcom for three years in a row. And we're committed to keeping it this way. Which is why we're upgrading our award winning fibre optic network over the next 18 months.

As part of this upgrade, you may have seen we'll be doubling many of our customers' broadband speeds. But, because you already get our fastest broadband, we're upgrading you to up to 120Mb and giving you a discount instead.

So whether you love streaming HD movies, ruling the gaming world or downloading tunes in super quick time - you'll soon be able to do it even faster and for less.

You don't have to lift a finger.

The 120Mb upgrade kick off in the summer and will have a slightly different roll-out schedule to our other work. We'll let you know nearer the time when to expect your broadband speed boost. In the meantime, see what you can do with faster speeds at virginmedia.com/evenfaster.

We'll be in touch in a few weeks with more details about your price reduction, so there's no need to call us, or do a thing – except keep enjoying what is already the UK's fastest broadband.

Kind regards,

But I'm not on the 100Mb package. They can give me 120 if they want though.

My mate who is on the 50 package got an email, howver I am on the 30 and did not. I suspect the upgrade will only be for those on 50 and to 'encourage' the rest of us to upgrade. Only time will tell however, judging by Virgins history I doubt they will give anything away. Only BT beat them for utter greed.

there pushing upgrades at the mo so that they can get every one on Superdud. Make sure if they upgrade you to do it all for free, including switch on.

I've also turned the wireless off on Superhub, forcing it too modem only, since it's got shit coverage and has firmware problems sending data through it's firewall on the default channel. Especially a problem if there are a lot of hubs near by in the same street. I'm using my old n rated D-Link for wireless. It works a treat.

I logged in to billing and got a pop-up message saying the upgrades are rolling out over the next 18 months! Laughing

Hrm.. I get disconnected occasionally and can't re-connect. If I change the channel could that help?

yes I believe you can change the channel. It's buried deep in the menu somewhere. Apparently 5 0r 7 works? I tried and it fixed some issues, but still had problems with some devices like tablets using wireless g at 2.5ghz and so on so just found it easier to disable the wireless and use my own router. I've no problem with the coaxial connection, it's just the tech inside the unit is piss poor.

Don't bother phoning tech help, it's overseas in India and they have no idea what there doing!
