So that's why I've not found much of anything lately.
(I can still use it but it's a bit trickier now, even considering that this search option always have been a bit unstable.)

I don't think it's even realistic to attempt searching old threads, especially when PC gaming and movies sections have new threads every day.

er what I mean more of, I'm going to start doing my game thread template things again and obviously I can't search to see if a game was already made a thread of. I mean obviously AAA ones are going to have a thread and I can manually look through a few pages.

Hehe, he's trying. [mrt] has been a bit busy with getting a new version of BNC up and running, is hoping to get the new search thing in before santa arrives, and I have him working on a movie updater for the forums as well, so a bit on his plate Laughing

Why do you make it youself so difficult by doing it by yourself? There are prolly enough trustworthy people here that can easy help you fix this Razz

Yes, gladly. The problem isn't in that if it were just the phpBB backend that needed fixing. Our database is just so huge that we need a dedicated search server running in the background. That was the plan. Invest in that and we shouldn't have any problems anymore in the future.

If anyone has any experience with Xapian feel free to raise your hand(s).

Well, AMD Phenom2 X4 955 with 4GB ddr2-800, for something like that, it should be enough, but was more thinking of bandwidth.

Can you limit search to the previous few months at least ? Or allow only title search and cache that ?

There has to be some compromise you can make.
