Two years to late. It's a shame because the actual space combat portion is pretty good. Everything else sucks though.
SWTOR + STO's space portion would be pretty badass.

I heard that F2P launch redid the ground combat completely and improved it/changed it. And they done some additional stuff too.

Well, it is undoubtedly lightyears ahead of Champions in one respect. You can now earn cash-shop currency with hard work. A most welcome change.

Nothing major changed really. Some meaningless tokens were merged into the new dilithium currency system and you can now get itemshop cash for it (if rates are ok, that's about 20-25-ish points per day). It is now also used to buy certain better quality items.
Also there is the duty officer system, which is kinda like the SWTOR companion-mission system, in terms of...missions. You can't take them anywhere like bridge officers, they are only there for doing missions. Each officer has certain attributes, that give advantages or disadvantages during missions (also rarity which also counts). If you succeed, you get some job-specific XP (like diplomacy, exploration, engineering, etc, but they are mostly for character titles and the chance to get even better duty officers), energy credits, XP, and sometimes special missions come up that can give bridge officers, more duty officers, special commodities, temporary buffs to certain stats (like an engine-tuning mission will give some boost to your engine power), items, etc. So apart from a few actual rewards, the duty officer system is its own reward.
Apart from these and a few other minor improvements, everything is as it was before. Great space combat, forgettable ground combat.

Because it's Perfect World Entertainment, they got not a single game on steam (asfar as i know), and are usually known for releasing half ready korean to english poorly translated games with the ingame market already to make quick money and never care about it anymore.
