I just won't hold my breath, the comment about it coming to console and a wider market just doesn't sit well with me. Every time I have read that, it is piss poor game, at least for me.

The original UFO/X-COM was on PS1, I recall playing a demo of C&C Red Alert on the playstation as well and it was fine.

It depends how true they want to be to the original and they know that a strategy game isn't going to appeal to the people who only play CoD.

Saying that the full pic on the article does look like a third person shooter with exciting cover mechanics.

For what is worth Game Informer calls it "full-on strategy", not "action title with strategy elements" or anything like that.

There probably is, but with the search broken you can't find it.

Well, hexes aren't too bad (Firaxis are masters of hex grids, lol!), not so good for classic X-COM tho.

You would be naive if you expected them to make a 1:1 replica of the old game with pretty graphics.

Hexes make for deeper gameplay. That's great in my book.

The main problem of this screen to me is that it looks just like ALTAR UFO games did and i hated them.
I know that the XCOM shooter has a similar design and they have to follow it, still, this only makes it worse.

About hexes - they're much better if we consider human FOV, you're right.

It's probably not a screenshot, it's even described as "speculation". Might still look like that, but lets hope not.

Eh? It's a screenshot. Guy added the boxes and annotations, speculating about the Ui elements.

Anyway, looks terrible.

hex move Sad I want to guess if i can get to the corner not count hexes!!
That screen + Firaxis tag = makes me see a CIV5 mod
If that hexagon thing is any indication every unit must always dist apart 3 units length
arrrgh I hate hex grids (can barely live with it when they are use to simulate operational level)
at list i´m not hyped anymore

If hexagons are what ruins the whole game for you, I don't even know what to say.

As I understand it takes place only in America... I mean USA. So I presume we will have only one base and no micromanagement with it as there are streamlined elements.
EDIT Oh. I misunderstood the part about USA. It was regarding the FPS POS called X-COM. My bad.

I like the models but the rest looks ugly. The UI is abysmal and awful if you are a master race player:) I would like to see a PC version of it. Overall it looks like XBOX Arcade title (read cheap).

Seeing this my expectations went from excited to sceptic. Scratch that. After my inner english translator start working properly my expectations went to excited again Smile.

Still - Xenonauts better not fuck this up.

I think it looks good enough, not really interested in the graphics as long as the gameplay is good.
That being that, i don't mind some pretty visuals as well, since X-COM looks terribly outdated by now, and Civ 5 looks really nice, so they're probably using the same engine.

Never played X-COM tbh, wanted to but it kept crashing, but i'll surely play this AND Jagged Alliance 2 remake

"Is this going to be dumbed down for the "wider console audience"?
Firaxis is undeniably streamlining aspects of the game and removing no small amount of micromanagement, but from what I've seen I wouldn't call it "dumbing down" the game so much as getting rid of tedium and uninteresting mechanics. Soldiers still die permanently, fog of war and line of sight are hugely important in combat, and you absolutely can lose the game if you screw up too badly."
