Sherlock Holmes : A Game of Shadows 8/10 , i thought it was the same thing up until the end, but whereas the first SH movie lacked a proper ending imo, and a proper villain, this had both, too bad that up until the castle in the mountains scene and the end (which actually made the movie a whole lot better), it was too close to the first movie pacing and plot wise.

This is England '86 (movie was '83)
ok, its not technically a "movie", but 4 episodic mini series, which i consider as a double feature lenght movie (4x45 minutes) + its a continuation of the Movie , with ALL of its original cast (yes milky survived, phew), 3 years later. It again touches on several serious topics, intermingled with some lighter moments (lots of tough stuff in it, so those fun moments are really needed, otherwise its just depressing, well, more than it already is hehe).
giving it a 8.5/10, judging it for what it is , a quasi-docu/"historic" movie-kinda thing (not judging its blockbuster value or anything).
now off to watch This is england '88

Heat - 9/10
Just watched it for the 3rd time, simply perfect. It's one of those masterpieces that will never get old.

Margin Call - 8.5/10 - Great cast and a really good movie portraying the face of capitalism.

Is it just me or is the movie making business going to shit? The number of good movies / bad movie is like 1 to 10000 these days.
Yes, yes I'm back.
Somewhat.

It's definitely not you, there are still rare gems and enjoyable movies but the lack of new ideas and originality is really self-evident. All we get these days are sequels, sequels of sequels, dozens of (bad) comic adaptations and cheesy blockbusters for teenagers.
It is also true that the number of movies produced now is larger than before, but damn, the average quality is so bad.

Not generally, but 2011 was a rather bad year for movies. I went to the cinema a lot in the 2005-2010 period and watched a shitload of movies via usenet, but last year was very uninspiring.

It's not you. The last good movie I watched was The King's Speech, which I really liked. That was about a year ago. I tried to watch some other movies since then, but I was so bored that I never finished any of them.
Do you have any particularly good recent (2011) movie worth watching, that I perhaps missed?

I would rather be slowly killed with a cheese grater than watch Sucker Punch..me and a couple of friends turned of that horrid piece of shit after about 40 minutes and that was 20 minutes after we should've. But to each his own. Hardly consensus on that being a good movie. Neither critical or popular acclaim.
Absolutely loved Rango, though! Best voice acting in any animated movie I have ever seen.

Scream 4
very good slasher. the opening sequence is brilliant. awesome kills and gore. having seen them all for the 1st time in the last couple of weeks I'd rate them like 1,3,4,2. i liked scream 3 very much. dont understand the hate for it.
8/10

"The Artist" from 2011 was memorable, but there is no scene release yet. "Drive" was awesome as well.

The Innkeepers (2011) - one of the weakest horrors ever created. If you wanna see it regardless, DON'T watch the trailer, since it contains everything scary within the movie. 3/10 (was gonna rate it 1/10, but the two extra points go to the cute girl in it)
