Look if you already have a SB 2500k/2600k/2700k this new hardware is obviously not something you will need. If you have an older system this could be an excellent replacement. I really like that Intel put effort in getting the power consumption down. If money is no problem SB E would be your choice I guess.

I'll stick with my brand new 2500K which boots at 5GHz and is 100% stable at 4.8GHz. (Haven't tried getting it 100% stable @ 5GHz, need better cooling).

There would be a noticeable performance boost moving on from the Core 2 Quad series to Sandy Bridge, so I'd say Ivy Bridge would be a great choice for an upgrade for those still on LGA775 CPUs.

It's nice that they're reducing power consumption, but I recently got the oresum i2500k (easily overclocked to 4.3Ghz) so yeah, I'm already super satisfied

It was up to 20% increase before. I guess it worked out much better than anticipated, unless those numbers include the IGP performance improvements.

Well to upgrade from my 2600k isn't worth it for this price..
Maybe if they drop by 25-50%, but for now, i'm good

You are right tho, even on wiki it's still saying:
Quote: | Intel's performance targets (compared to Sandy Bridge):[18]
Up to 20% increase in CPU performance.
Up to 30% increase in integrated GPU performance. |
18 refers to http://vr-zone.com/articles/ivy-bridge-to-have-20-percent-performance-advantage-over-sandy-bridge/11061.html
But it's a really early article, so they must have improved something..
Tho i wonder, how do they rate this "37% increase"?
Do they compare best sandybridge vs best ivybridge, cuz then it's unfair IMO.
If they test the same price ranges, then ye fair enough, but somehow i got my doubts.

There is much more to IB then just a performance increase. Much more... performance is mere bonus really to me.

The 37% increase comes from eventual releases running at much higher clock rates. The release parts aren't any faster then the current SB offerings.
Remember, this is just a die shrink with a new IGPU. Nothing more.

MUCH more? Like what, skipping the IGPU?
Thing is, the more stuff you integrate into the CPU, the more complex and difficult it is to get really good clocks out of it.

Yeah, it's a non-event for current i5/i7 owners.

So that review suggests a 7% CPU performance increase. What about GPU? if its 30% then the new iMacs will be even better at gaming...

Who uses build-in gpu for gaming anyway?
