Genres don't matter here. Since you see and control the main character from a third-person perspective, it falls into that category without any hesitation.

Finished all TPP games this year, that's the only category I can vote on:
1. L.A. Noire 9.3
2. Batman Arkham City 9.1
3. Dead Space 2 8.9
4. Assassins Creed Brotherhood 8.6 (March 2011!)
4. Alice Madness Returns 8.6
6. Assassins Creed Revelations 8.4
What a year!
Only a handful of people will have played every game worth playing in 2011. There just isn't enough time.
We should do another GOTY 2011 vote in mid 2012.

I am way too far from finishing almost every game worth mentioning in that category, aside from Dead Space 2. So my initial impressions look like that:
1. Batman: Arkham City
2. ... (AC:Revelations most likely, but I played around 10% of that game, so I'll just skip this)
3. Dead Space 2
Haven't even touched LA:Noire yet, even though I was quite hyped for it.

I don't try this kind of games too much, only if they're exceptional (according to user review, previous installments, etc.) , though I admit I've been playing them increasingly in the last 3-4 years.
1. Batman: Arkham City (clear winner for me).
2. Assassin's Creed Brotherhood.
3. Assassin's Creed Revelations.
