I think it basically comes down to people realizing the limitations of reality. It's the same reason people keep defending rain, snow, gravity and disease. It's annoying and a nuissance sure, but it's still a limitation of reality. The fact that all major MMO's experience the exact same problems after release tells those of us able of rational thought, that it comes with the business if you want to play MMO's from release day.
Damn that gravity. It used to make my knees bleed when I was a kid. I'm alright with it though because I understand it's how the world work. I'm also alright with extended downtimes at newly released MMO's at patch day out of the same rationale. |
Your point is valid, but imo it does not justify every single problem an MMO has around release. I mean for how long are they making these games now? Let's say WoW was the first big one, 7 years later they still make the exact same retarded mistakes that pisses everyone off.
I bet these companies can't make up a valid excuse for splitting up (EA and masterrace) and performing these maintance hours in the off-hours, other than money.

Like I said before.. I'm still on my days off. And I bought the game yesterday because I've got all this freetime and want to spend it with gaming. Now I can't. So yes, I got nothing else to do.

It's bitchy because, while I'm sure there are legitimate reasons for the maintenance, people are still going to out on game time. Which normaly isn't a problem, but when the downtime eats your subscription, it's ok to be a little whiney and bitchy. 
Also, when the download servers, make you download the game twice(as it happened to me) because there was a problem server side the first time, and then when you try to download the second time the dl speed is 2-300 kbps, getting a bit angry is not uncalled for.
SW:TOR download ETA:21h
Anyway, back to Skyrim.

People complaining about this MMO's release must not have experianced many MMO releases in their life. This one is FAR beyond in quality then any other MMO i've ever played at release. WoW was horrid at release. (Crashing servers, 8H long queues, horrible performance issues even on good systems, etc..) Do I need even mention Anarchy Online, SWG, and any number of other MMO's I played at release that were complete rubbish at release?

Its not like you can clear out all bugs and bad stuff at game release, and some stuff just cant be tested that easly, even after 6 years, Its not a WoW DLC. Its a complete new game with different game mechanics and different Client handling.

what, no they werent? And what the fuck is a non-mainstream MMO? Maybe EVE can be designated as such but literally every game have been massive in scale relative to their launch date.
