Your movement perception seems to be a bit miscalibrated
I've just found the video
The cat fell from the 1st floor (I think)..he should be fine. (Mine did almost the same thing some years ago without any consequences )
Studies have actually shown that anything over the first floor and to and included the 5th floor(iirc) are the most dangerous for a cat. First floor and under = Neither high or fast enough to be dangerous. 2-5 = High and fast enough to be dangerous and the cat doesn't reach this state of 'gliding' that it does reach when falling from even bigger heights. It's ..Quite Interesting. (I saw it on QI )
I'm not very proud of it but as a child I once dropped a cat from the 2nd floor. (dropped with feet pointing downwards)
I can say it did glide to the ground smoothly and landed perfectly fine.
It was a very furry cat maybe that helped with aerodynamics.
They throw cats from different heights and study it? Sounds like fun!
I cant remember the actual specifics but I doubt it. It was a study of recorded cat jumpings and the mortality rate increased when you got above the first floor and decreased dramatically again when you got above the 5-6th
