Alan Wake's American Nightmare will be available in February

Oh and yes,Max Payne had a good influence over AW:AN that's why you gonna see Uzi's and all kind of new weapons and a lot more action and a bit less story ( still very epic ! )

The release day has been said it is "very early 2012", February hasn't been confirmed AFAIK.

Naah Very Happy, I'm pretty sure it won't be so demanding. Levels aren't that big after all, there are never too many characters on the screen and it's always dark Laughing

(though there's indeed the concrete possibility of a a shitty port)

I personally don't think it works that way.

Alan Wake is an "In-house engine".

If its the same engine as when it was being developed for PC, I think it should be fine.

If they designed this in-house engine for consoles, then it will likely not work very well on PC's.

I don't think I've ever seen a port where they have put work into increasing performance, it normally just relies on if their engine is built around consoles or not.

Come to think of it, will it now fully utilize quad-core CPU's and DX10 cards? Cool Face

Considering it doesn't fully utilize the 360 CPU ("I think we can still push for more in the future especially on the CPU side but also on the GPU") and there never were any DX10 features confirmed, no.

Your misinterpreting it.

Like most games it does fully utilise the CPU.

What they are suggesting is there are tricks they can do with the game to reduce CPU usage and free it up for improving the game.

Its a combination of more efficient ways of processing things as well as removing/changing things that the customer likely won't notice if its gone/changed. (like how Crysis 2 was "optimised")

If we do get DX10, it will probably be hacked on and not do much.

The graphics side is pretty well optimized, but I think we can still push for more in the future especially on the CPU side but also on the GPU. We already have a few bigger changes in mind that could free up as much as 30% processing time, but they were too big to do for Alan Wake 1.

Well, I interpreted as "additionally, we can free 30% processing time, while we already do not use much of CPU anyway", but I admit I might have been wrong.

However, it's besides the point because what you wrote, "like most games it does fully utilise the CPU." is wrong, at least in the context that I think h_s meant the word "fully", and also in the context my reply to him was meant to be read. -> No game uses eg 90% of the 4 cores of a quad core CPU, and this won't be an exception.

Ah that's where I misinterpreted then, I meant the 360 CPU not a quad core.

It's kinda impossible to observe how much of each core, games on the 360 utilize, but I don't see any reason to be different.

BTW straight from Remedy, PC details:

Quote:
We have HDR/FP16 on PC. SSAO is in and like some other effects has some quality settings we can bump up with fast gfx cards. We have FXAA in American Nightmare 360 and it's entirely possible it'll make its way to Alan Wake PC Smile

Yes, we have a DX9 engine, but it's a very advanced DX9 engine. You can do pretty much everything you want (even deferred rendering with MSAA some have said was impossible) apart from some special techniques like HW tessellation on shader model 3 if you have the performance.

Also, don't expect to hear that much from Remedy over the holidays - the team is taking a few days off as it's going to be a hectic Q1 for us with two game launches...

There's no announced release date for AW PC (other than "Q1" I mean). It is AWAN XBLA that is coming this February. The upcoming FAQ, won't reveal the release date just yet either.

Most likely it'll be a March release, in order to avoid releasing 2 AW titles released in the same month (MS wouldn't like that either).
