Chronic Dev team broke the bad news earlier today that the exploits that they had discovered in iOS 5 beta that could have resulted in an untethered jailbreak for iOS device users and more importantly a jailbreak for iPhone 4S and iPad 2 users, has been patched by Apple in the final version of iOS 5.
But the ever-so dependable iPhone Dev team has just tweeted some good news for iPhone 4S users.
MuscleNerd tweeted few hours back:
Crazy Thanksgiving weekend! Very promising 4S unlock (http://twitpic.com/7kku4t) is in the works (Not i4, just 4S..that's crazy part)
It means that they have discovered out an exploit in the A5 processor that powers iPhone 4S and iPad 2 that will allow users to unlock their iPhone 4S so that they can use it with any other GSM carrier.
MuscleNerd has also posted this image to confirm the unlock for iPhone 4S:
Since you first need to jailbreak the iPhone to unlock it, it looks like Dev team is gearing up to launch a jailbreak and unlock for iPhone 4S. Let's hope that while the unlock will only be available for iPhone 4S users, it will at least support an untethered jailbreak for iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS along with the iPads and iPod touches.
Dev team haven't provided an ETA on when it will be released but as always, we'll keep you posted if there are any further updates, so stay tuned here at iPhone Hacks or join our Facebook Fan page or follow us on Twitter or subscribe to our RSS feed.

iTether was available in App store today..Apple approved it. Hahah. I grabbed it just in time before it was pulled by apple. Now I can finally tether my iPhone4s and not have to wait for JB to ever arrive. Yeepee!!

Apple Pulls iTether
Submitted by phankinson on Tue, 11/29/2011 - 14:22
Around 12PM EST, Apple called our head office to let us know they were going to go ahead and pull our app iTether from the App Store. They stated it was because the app itself burdens the carrier network, however they offered us no way to remedy the solution… We were very clear when listing the app what the primary function was and they even followed up with several questions and requested a video demo then they approved the application.
We strongly disagree that it burdens a carrier’s network, as from our own data history on more than 500,000 users we know the average user consumes less than 200 MBs of data per month on Tether. In comparison, one TV show streamed from Netflix, an approved Apple App, could easily be in the 300-400 MBs range. Sure, there are some users that will consume way more than the average however that’s the case with any of these types of products.
Our team is very disappointed in Apple’s decision; as we strongly believe we help carriers better monetize their data stream by pushing customers into new data tiers further increasing their bottom-line. It is very anti-competitive to not allow any Tethering application to enter into this space to innovate. Our team has created a lot of innovative solutions for the BlackBerry product, which we were hoping to port over to the iPhone like end-to-end encryption, compression, website filtering and port filtering.
According to Apple, users who purchase iTether before it was pulled will continue to be able to use the product.
Our team is evaluating all of our options… Stay tuned.

Hmm as cool as it sounds, reading this put me off a bit ...
Quote: | The Siri assistant is currently only available on the iPhone 4S. The H1Siri app, available on a custom repository for the Cydia jailbreak app (which is used to find and download jailbroken software), uses Apple-owned files to trick Siri into working on the iPhone 4. In October, we reported that hacker Steven Troughton-Smith was able to get his Siri hack to communicate with Apple’s servers, but he wouldn’t release it to the public because it required distributing Apple’s copyrighted files.
H1Siri’s developers, the Chinese hacking group CD-Dev Team, don’t seem as concerned about those pesky legal issues.
The hack also requires you to send your Siri commands through CD-Dev Team’s proxy servers, which gives the shady group direct access to your contacts, calendar, e-mail, location, and more personal data.
If those red flags weren’t bad enough, reports from multiple early adopters show that H1Siri can cause a variety of problems on your iPhone — including settings malfunctioning, difficulty booting, and even completely killing (bricking) the phone.
I can see why so many desperate consumers are eager to get their Siri on, but this hack doesn’t seem like it’s worth all of the headache. Either hold out for a more functional hack (which may take a while, since those copyrighted files will remain an issue), or save up for an iPhone 4S or next year’s model. |
May the NFOrce be with you always.

Yeah, A5 is the 4s and Pad2 - though I really hope pod2g can get it working on A5 devices too.

last thursday.. the guy who does the untethered jailbreak said he will release it in a few days... its now been 5 days and still no release...even though he says its all done and tested.
I dont understand why he dont release it for the iphone4.. and then release the iphone4s one its done.
If apple patch it in 5.1... im sure most of us would be happy to be on 5.0.1. I at mo are on 4.3.3

That one was a fake if your talking about the one I think you are. pod2g's jailbreak is the one you need to keep an eye on and he just updated his blog today with some good news for us 4s owners
Spoiler: | No more cache troubles
OK, figured it out, the A5 cache is not a problem anymore.
I sorted it out by doing the untether in a single thread and by flushing all the dcache then all the icache in a row at a strategical point of the process.
It took me like a hundred of tests to find the key. Hard for the nerves.
For the tech guys, here is a link explaining issues related to self modifying code ( or code patching ) on the ARM platform : http://blogs.arm.com/software-enablement/141-caches-and-self-modifying-code/
Another news : I discussed with @saurik today about the launchd boot process, and he's found one missing piece of the puzzle I needed to have a perfectly stable jailbreak. He's definitly one of the best iOS gurus out there. Thank you saurik! |

Yeah, freaking great news!
I'm currently updating from 5.0 to 5.0.1 to do the jb.. Altho I'm aware there's gonna be 5.0 untethered as well soon, but.. I don't feel like waiting.. I waited for long enough already!
