How i can get one is not the point, all i need to know:

Dual HD6870 or Single GTX580 or wait?

Better wait until both Nvidia and AMD has released their cards. Then see which is better choice. Dual HD 6870 will run console ports nicely (with driver hotfixes Cool Face) till both cards has released. I personally will wait kepler, AMD is not option in this house.

Yea, i have to say. AMD is quite dissapointing lately with their drivers.
Before it wasn't THIS bad, but these days.... Sad

No, it's because you're running a multi GPU setup. Either way, the 580 is a better choice if you want to get rid of those issues.

@ Breezer: Desktop Kepler won't be out until April at the *very* earliest and even then it'll most likely only be GK106, not 104 or better Smile

nvidia. Even tho ati is faster, compatibility issues are awful

Uhm, my current setup runs that maxed out (except for deferred AA) with solid 60 fps. Razz
Cuz performance wise, dual HD6870 is virtually the same (a little better) then a single 580.

there is a golden rule for upgrading computers :


never wait "for the next xyz to be released"

but

upgrade what you NEED to upgrade , when you NEED to upgrade.


If your current setup still works fine (using tht term loosely here, we all follow your dual gpu issue posts hehe) i wouldnt upgrade yet and wait.

IF however the issues make gaming impossible for you right now (or close to), then i would change for another gpu now.

HOWEVER there are sales after christmas no ? Thats maybe worth considering ,timewise Smile

you can turn off CF for individual games no ? I'd just do that for the time being, for the games that have/make issues.

Yea i can, but i loose out on quite some fps in most games (like only around 30-35 in BF3)

I've had CF setup for about 2 years now iirc.
I've only had issues with a few games...those that come to mind on a short notice is two worlds 2 and rage.
With both I was forced to turn off CF in order to play smoothly. They were of course fixed later and two worlds 2 expansion runs fine now with 2 cards.

I've been quite content with multigpu system,so I will consider going that road later too. Very Happy

Well for current games, i have to turn of crossfire for Skyrim and AC:R (Skyrim still does better on 1 card (AMD blames the devs and not their drivers), while AC:R gives microstuttering and sometimes drops to ~30 fps, while 1 card gives solid 60).
As i didn't had this crossfire for long, i cannot say much about other games, only the future will tell Very Happy

I would say dont buy it if its at the top hill price. If you are a computer geek that wants all new stuff faster than everyone, its your money. But you will always be buying at highest price. PC games nowadays are "consolized". I have an old geforce 250 and can play every game like Syrim for example, with good graphics.

Consumism is one of the greatest disease in our Society and this is what feed more, the 1% that rule us.

Most incredible thing is that if we dont buy we cut their power.

Sry I was a bit (un)inspired...

Ask yourself this, how many future games are likely to even use half the hardware of the next generation? I doubt there will be even one such game next year, so I'd just get a GTX580 when they're cheapest.
