I'm just saying, for those that will think this is a GoG v2 prank.
TWIN PEAKS is "something of a miracle."
"...like nothing else on television."
"a phenomenon."
"A tangled tale of sex, violence, power, junk food..."
"Like Nothing On Earth"

Ugh, this is right up there with Bioware being taken over by EA.

kinda sucks, but it seems like in some way or another russian developers are always the leader in disappointment, even the good games they wind up making like stalker are still pretty crappy in some ways.

To take someone else's earlier statement a bit further:
They may have promised a game that was supposed to be 100 times better than anything on the market. But they only managed to deliver 10% of their promises. And it's still 10 times better than anything else on the market.

basically what i was getting at, russian games always have weird little oddities or swastika trees (noob programming mistake, there are entire courses on how to avoid doing this, is why it's mentioned), hell... i'm being nice and not mentioning russian driving games honestly, i'm not saying that AAA titles are better overall or what i prefer but... russian games are quite solidly B games.... like those movies where you can tell the good guy by who has a moustache and who doesn't, usually rough around the edges to say the least but they do manage to be pretty god damn fun too at times all the same and correct me if i'm wrong, but wasn't there at least one or two other russian developers who just put up the old poolsclosed.png because he was only making games as a stepping stone before?
[edit] and before i forget this one again, the whole "pre-order 90000 billion copies and we'll sell it at a decent price" scam that was "offered" lately was a russian developer too, no surprise... [/edit]

Quote: | I'm reading publisher's discussion on twitter (people who worked/started russian publishers focused on PC gaming) and judging from numbers they mention it seems that the problem was in lack of console versions indeed. Most sales of PC games come from Russia/Poland and these markets have lower prices than usual (like 3 times lower in Russia for example). By selling 800 000k at retail (where the market still is in Russia/Poland) they get only 10 million$. 200 000k through digital - another 3 million. And that is for a major project with experienced publisher behind it. so they just broke even.
The bottomline - you can't have a team of 50 people and develop for PC only, period.*
Today GSC will issue an official statement and according to various rumours Grigorovich may say that he closed the company because of personal reasons. But personal reasons or not, the real reasons behind closing ae likely to be mostly financial. "Personal reasons" - I don't want to develop a game and then barely stay alive next two years, I had enough of this - something like this, I guess.
*edit: by this I mean single-player games. |

They announced recently all their games will be multiplatform, so you are just proving the poster's point.
