swtor has its own installer and launcher, so origin is indeed optional.

Its pretty much the same thing WoW has Smile

That's so weird... all of EA's talk about how Origin is awesome, and how they have X Million people using it at once, and then they don't use it for TOR. It's like they've given up on Origin already, or something.
Bec its not produced by EA.

It's produced by BioWare. Which is EA owned.

i was thinking that there is a way for blizzard to piss in swtor pie this month, even if they set diablo release data in january +

on vga this weekend, they could announce open beta for diablo, starting 15 december, for 1 month.

for those who pre-ordered the game, you can now download and install the client. Also it seems EA has changed early access days to 7 Very Happy

Anyone know how exactly they are staggering this? Is it essentially like saying opening it up for 2,000 people on that first day of early access, then another 2k people and so on and so forth in subsequent days? Something like that maybe?

Anyone can download the client as long as you have an account for the game's website, which is easy to create.

I didn't pre-order but I want to be ready for the moment I'll start playing at launch.

The 27Gb download is rolling in as we speak Smile

If you participated in our recent Beta Testing Weekend between November 25th and 28th and still have the game client installed, you will be able to patch this client instead of re-installing by simply launching your client, logging in and allowing the download to complete. If you did not participate in the November 25th – 28th Beta Weekend, first uninstall the Game Testing Client and then re-install to ensure your game client will function correctly during Early Game Access.

yay no need to redownload

Not sure why people keep saying it's 27GB or so to d/l. My directory shows just under 20GB for the game and I played on that Beta weekend that was mentioned just above.

Early Game Access* will begin on December 13th at 7:00AM EST, 2011 and ends on December 19th, 2011 at 10:01PM EST. During this time, we will be emailing invitations to join Early Game Access based on the order in which you redeemed your Pre-Order Code. Pre-load the game client now, so you're ready to play when your Early Game Access invitation arrives. Note that download time can vary and may take awhile.

Yeah it's a beautiful thing. My theory is that they extended it to 7 days so they could give the die-hard's who pre-ordered this summer 2 extra days, just to make them feel special. The rest of us will probably get 5 days. It's the best they can do to avoid getting 950.000 derps whining at them for the "up to 5 days early-access". To be honest it was a retarded thing to say to begin with. Anyway this solution makes everyone happy. Win-win-win across the board.

Its amazing though how spoiled and truly derped some people are. The advert on the official page along with everything else clearly stated UP TO 5 DAYS, nowhere did it guarantee you would get 5 days early access if you pre-ordered.
I shudder at the thought of having to share the same server with some of these idiots...

Actually I am thinking the whole process will be a lot smoother, they must have invested shitloads in huge server farms for this game, so I expect most people will be able to play around the 13th or 14thdember at most.

Lets not speculate, though i agree with you. Probably the reason why they pushed the early access forward by two days...
Im just hoping I get it before next weekend, would suck to have to wait until monday.

this.

Look how the "Big" Beta Weekend went (not last one, the one before). Everyone (me included) excepted a total shitfest of crashes , queues and what not. And guess what, we were wrong (mostly). It was one of the smoothest stresstests i've ever been part of, by far.

Btw, did anyone else note the date for europe being 15th ? Sale date that is.

i dont want to read a 500 pages topic, but in the first post it states :

http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=502598

It is our pleasure to finally announce to you that Star Wars: The Old Republic will launch on December 20, 2011 in North America, and in Europe on December 22, 2011.

i presume that means the eu servers will apear only on 22 december, and until then, we can play on us one.
kinda fuckt up thing. i see no reason for that 2 day delay between, and i was hoping that they will launch it in the same day, but still, i dint see any official announcement about it.
and how that will work with early access ?

from 15 you can purchase swtor in a store, that not means that the servers will be availible on 15. it only means that a store have the green light to put the game on display.

It was said some time ago on a webpage far far away that they've changed it to 20th of December both, in EU and NA

In Europe, copies of #SWTOR will be available at retail starting on December 15, 2011.

In the USA and Canada, copies of #SWTOR will be available at retail starting on December 20, 2011.

Digital orders for #SWTOR from http://Origin.com will be emailed Game Codes starting December 16, 2011.

Note when I say 'at retail' I mean picking up in-store from that day.
