I just wanted to check with you guys. The heat effect that blurs everything in waves, is that in fact a heat effect, or is there something wrong with my graphics card? The effect (if it is an effect) seems so exaggerated, it's like I'm drunk or something.

For me it doesn't matter what resolution or level of detail I have, it is still choppy as hell.

My spec:

2.3 ghz celeron
512 MB Ram
ATI radeon 9800 pro 128 mb

Runs perfect full everything on my machine..

ATI radeon 9800 pro 128mb Wink
3.2 P4
1Gb dual channel 3200Ram

Use something other than a Celeron to play the game Very Happy

Yeah but I'm not the only one with this problem.
And besides lowering my detail and resolution should help but it doesn't.
Right now I play with 1024x768 with full drawing distance,AA 3 and very hig detail level and it runs exactly the same as 640x480, 0 drawing distance, no AA and low detail.
My computer should play this game without a problem but it doesn't and I'm not the only one with these problems(and they have ATI cards as well, haven't seen any nvidia owner complain about it only ATI)

yep same here.. i got p4 2.8ghz.. 1gig ram.. 9800

If i put it on 1280x1024 with full draw distance.. everything high etc... run the same as if i put it on 640x480 with low etc... Vice city ran perfect./

Turn off complex shadows (by setting visual fx quality to low), they dont even look good and greatly lowers fps. You can leave everything else maxed.

Yes, the respect bar takes a long time to fill.

Damn this is weird, I can't see how we're all having the same problem while some don't. Also, to the one who said "it's your pcs not the crack", of course it is, what else? Razz

There's some kind of a compatibility error or something.. I just don't get it, Vice City ran fine for me aswell. Hum. I've checked alot of forums but none of em have a fix for it. It must be something small.

I've tried updating my driver to, didn't fix it. Tried disabling sound aswell as the sound card, didn't solve it. Tried almost all different settings. Also tried the different ATI control panel settings, none solved it. So weird Confused

And lastly, to the one who suggested "one of us" to buy the original game, why would we buy a game when we're not sure it can run well on our pcs? Come on... Razz
Yeah, it doesn't make sense.
Here is another one from planet GTA.
Quote:
Yeah I got the same specs except the video card.
Mine is a Radeon 9800 Pro and the game runs like crap too.
I already played with the distance setting and stuff but no change in performance. I can even get 4x Anti Aliasing and that wouldn't slow the game down more.

My bet is that the support/optimization for ATI cards is
not done well.

I already had bad feelings as I saw that cursed Nvidia sign on start up.

To bad Rockstar couldn't make it to support at least the two majors on the gfx hardware market. A real shame.
So that way they won't get the money from me.
Good that I borrowed the game from a friend of mine to check it out beforehand. :\

Can Rockstar have forgotten to optimise the game for that card or something ?? Question

3200 a64 + X800XTPE + 1gig of ram and everything on max at 1280x1024 runs like a dream.

Dunno what all the probs are, it has to be system/hardware dependent

Just wanted to put my specs here and the performance I am getting.

MSI K8TNEO FIS2R
AMD64 3400+
ATI X800 XT PE w/ TT Giant3 Extreme
512x2 Kingmax ddr400 pc 3200
WD Raptor 74gb 10k rpm
Not overclocking anything atm.
Have other stuff but not real important to this equation.

In game I can play all settings on max 1600x1200 and get between 30-80 fps. However, if I force 6x AA and 16x AF with full quality and temp AA, it starts to really chug. It's pretty demanding.

No it's not supposed to be like that, it occurs with 4.x Radeon-drivers, upgrade to 5.x and you'll be fine.

---

About lock-on mode (for aiming)

Lock on mode works only for brawl/melee, to lock on then, you right-click your opponent and use left-click for hitting (and enter/f (default keysetting) for specials).

The "auto aim" for firearms is when you just press your mousebutton without manual aim, usually you can't hit for shit - so use the manual aim.

I think "auto aim" is a console-thing, something that's needed with the crappy controls of a console.

Yes, yes I'm back.

The motion blur is also too exaggerated if you ask me. When you use the nitro it all becomes fucked.

Btw the game runs like a dream here with all settings at highest level. (Notice I got ATI):

P4 2.66 GHz, 1500MB Dual DDR, SB Audigy 2 ZS, ATI Radeon 9800 Pro.

Nope. But thanks for playing.

Here's from the readme in the install-dir:

Quote:
Q: Why does the "Heat Haze" effect look weird on my ATI graphics card?
A: The Heat Haze effect has been noticed to be corrupt when using ATI 4.x series drivers - this seems cured on 5.x series ATI drivers.

Maybe you (like 50% of all people who "upgrade") failed to upgrade properly?

Yes, yes I'm back.

Press the numpad keys in accordance what appears on the screen (hit them when they're in the circle).

If you've ever played DDR, this should be easy.

the problem with that is the fact that the install is not made to install off of cds.. its made to install off of one dvd so it wont ask you for another disc

It will ask to insert a cd with the missing files Very Happy

kinda hard if some of the setup files are bigger than one cd!!

see look for yourself...

see the two files highlighted in a red box, they wont even fit on a cd

And besides most games that has a cd and dvd version ie UT2k4 kept all the files in a size that would fit a cd... and if i remember ut2k4 DVD had all the data broken up in their own folders that mirrors the cds

sa doesnt... hence the install program is not made aware of a multicd install..

Is it just for me, or do cars pop up RIGHT in front of you while you're driving when you look behind you, then face forward again? Also, I noticed a NASTY forced feature. ***MISSION SPOILER BELOW***

On that mission where you have to rescue Sweets at his girls house, during the chase, that car will pop up behind you no matter if you make him go down the wrong street or not. At an intersection, I had rammed into one street while I turned onto the perpendicular street, I look back he's not there, look back a second or two later, he's right on my bumper.

well according to the recs a full install will need 4.7 gb of space (game+audio)

you can install just the game which will take 3.6 gb

now the install files are compressed (see picture i posted on above) rar files...
so the space it takes on the dvd may actually be a bit smaller than the installed space(according to my properties it is 3.92 gb in used space)... however when isos are made they are generally bigger than the actualy space it takes up on the dvd.

negative... this is valid with cd image files (bin+cue or mdf+mds). an .iso file takes exactly the same spaces it needs on a dvd to be burned
