killer elite 7/10

quite enjoyed it - had some great action sequences and fight scenes, with a damn good cast list, and i found it very watchable.

Fright Night - 5/10 - At some points it seems like it tries to be a dark comedy yet at other points it seems as I should take it seriously. In any case it fails at both.

In time - 7.5/10 - Really good concept, but I found much of the stuff too hard to believe (including the main premise, although I would let that go considering it's a good concept as I said already). But there was too much other stuff that bothered me, otherwise it would have been 8, maybe 8.5.

In Time - 2/10 - gets one point for 5 minutes of Olivia Wilde ... omg what a trainwreck ... Justin Timberlake in a futuristic action film ... yikes ... the scene of him crying over his "mother" was hillarious ... and the scene when they crash with the car is the worst use of special effects I've seen in a recent time. All in all o ne big massive FAIL.

Hugo (IMAX 3D) 9/10 - What a great surprise and excellent 3d delivery - it was really quite an experience.

Colombiana - 6/10 - It was fun to watch on a lazy sunday

The Thing 2011 - 7/10 No where near the level of the original. No Kurt no good Very Happy Beside it had some plot holes I would have liked to have answered. Defiantly enjoyable though, and never really did expect it to live up to the original film.

Straw Dogs (2011) - not a bad remake. I loved both this one and the original. Don't why the enormous hate over at imdb, but I couldn't care less. 7.5/10

Drive - 9/10

Absolutely fucking amazing, everything is perfectly handled from the performances, the story, the casting, the awesome soundtrack, the brutal violence. The only problem I had was the ending...

Right on mate. To think I was one of 4000 people to see his second movie in the danish theaters and despair. The movie was "Fear X" and that was all style and little else.
He was bankrupt after that movie flunked big time.

So he had to return to the "Pusher" universe, that was his brilliant debut (slight warning; its in Danish, but a great flick).
With Pusher 2 and 3 he was back on track economically and after "Bronson" and "Valhalla Rising" we got "Drive" that I gave 10/10 in september and after reviewing last week its still a 10/10 from me.

Look out for more Nicolas Winding Refn fellow humpers!

(Can we get a derp waving a danish flag pretty please?) Smile

In Time - 3.5/10

All I can say is - the fuck you smoking, Mr. Niccol?! I mean, let's take a look: Gattaca - fucking subtle masterpiece, simply brilliant from start to finish. The Truman Show - even though Jim detracts, it's still a thought provoking yet lighthearted piece. The Terminal - solid work. Lord of War - really good movie, great style, great pacing, very good dialogue/narration.

And then we have this ... this ... God, I payed for this - I actually went to the cinema to watch this based on my expectations, where do I begin:

The heavy handed political message (eg. all wealthy people stole their money, et al), not my style. I like subtle messages. Then there's the acting, which is ... lacking. Worst offender is the script, which is based on an interesting concept, then that is not taken anywhere, and it had the worst one dimensional characters possible. The shallow Robin Hood vibe doesn't help either.

All in all sci-fis should be about asking complex questions, having complex settings ripe for the exploration of human nature within them. All this movie had was a black/white good guy/bad guy narrative with one dimensional characters.

Fuck it, I had so high hopes!

The Man on the Train (2011) - not a bad remake here as well. The synopsis sounded well and the movie didn't disappoint. The only gripe I had throughout the movie was the stiffness of the main character, but since it's his first main movie, he's forgiven. Very Happy 7/10
