Just finished it, gameplaywise nothing big of changes.
Tho the (wannabe) rts part of the game was quite annoying and shitty executed.
Other then that, i did quite enjoy playing it and there was not a single second that i was bored of following the main questline (like the case was especially in AC1).

Storywise

 Spoiler:

All i can say, bring on AC3, can't wait how the story evolves. Smile

Finished it, 100% sync baby Cool trained all assassins too. Story is fantastic, ending is superb, all in all it's lacking content from the previous two but it does have a better story, music is great, atmosphere is great, can't wait for the next one.

Balancing is off I have to say, in the begging of AC:B you lose all your equipment, here you start off the bat with a dual-blade, bombs, etc., again they should have balanced it out and introduced equipment as you progress threw the game.

Sad to see Ezio go Sad I wonder what they'll do with the next guy, personality and stuff.

You actually don't get your equipment back right at the beginning. You get the hookblade + second blade in sequence 2, and bombs are introduced in the middle of sequence 3 (I played for quite a while before even starting that particular memory). You then still have to buy the short blade, the crossbow (which is frankly quite expensive, and you can't get it until you've played for a while), and those poison darts. Not to mention all those equipment upgrades, which make a return from the previous games (I don't understand what happened to that Romulus armor from Brotherhood, though Laughing )

Anyway, I'm enjoying this game a lot more than Brotherhood so far (I'm nowhere near the end yet, though, so my opinion could change). The gameplay is pretty much identical (with some additions), but the story and writing in general is a whole lot better (reminds me of AC1). In AC: B, the Borgia storyline was just weak (Cesare was one big pussy... "Guards!" Laughing ), and I didn't like those Romulus fellas either. In comparison, AC: R is much better. I also prefer Constantinople over Rome. Razz

I also, surprisingly , like the den defense because it's actually challenging. Regardless, it is actually completely optional, since you can still bribe heralds and kill officials (Templars only attack you if your notoriety is full). They only got rid of posters, thankfully. Those were really annoying, and wouldn't make sense here either, since it is no longer just you the Templars are after, but the whole assassin order. So, showing your blade to a bunch of annoying beggars won't increase your notoriety anymore, but buying buildings, renovating shops, and attacking Templar dens will (makes sense).

The Desmond parts are not bad either. I like the dialog and level design. I still think it would be a lot better if it was in 3rd person, though. The only reason it's in 1st is because you have to place those blocks, which is actually what makes these levels annoying for most people. They could've done this better, and in 3rd person, like these games are meant to be played.

Really not understanding all the criticism so far, especially since the two additions (den defense and Desmond parts) that people were most disappointed with (and are actually not bad) are completely optional and easy to avoid. Most reviewers also failed to mention all the improvements to notoriety (a lot less annoying now, and makes more sense), improved storyline (ok, maybe that's a matter of opinion Razz), and improvements to assassin recruits, which were badly done in AC: B. The recruitment missions are still not perfect (they agree a little to easily still), but a whole lot better than in AC: B. You also get a special mission when one of your recruits reaches a high rank, which is a nice addition.

Anyway, I'll play more and see how it goes before I make any conclusions, but so far this AC is my favorite. If they can make the next one have as many cities as AC2 (maybe even more), a similar quality of story, and finally fix the combat, it's gonna be good.

Alas the armor (of Brutus though.) was made into a CE extras.

http://shop.ubi.com/store/ubiemea/sv_SE/pd/ThemeID.8605700/productID.236109800/Assassins-Creed-Revelations-Digital-Exclusive-Edition.html

(Unsure if that even works since it's regional but it should be easy to browse back to that page, seems they only made a smaller retail PC shipment and the rest goes via their own stores, Steam, Gamersgate and such only got the normal edition but the additions are pretty minor though that additional location and weapon would have been fun.)

EDIT: Uups it's not even part of the normal CE, it's only in that X360/PS3 Animus edition.

100% sync on this game is actually pretty easy. This is the first (and last I reckon) AC game which I will fully sync.

Most of the stuff was introduced during the second and third memories which was good enough considering there are only 9 memories. It would have been stupid to introduce new stuff late in the game. Plus, there is no excuse to withhold all the equipment now that Ezio is a master assassin.

Yeah I agree with templ mostly. While I did like Revelations more than Brotherhood, they did rush the game and it showed with some of the features (there were no missions to help the citizens other than punching a guy and helping a ship dude with his cargo plus the faction missions were cut down to only 1 per faction).

The master assassin missions divided into two parts were quite cool and adding the MP characters to the mix was a nice touch.

Best moment for me was the 4th Altair mission (especially if you do it according to the 100% sync conditions)

1 and 2 are still amazing.

I don't believe the PC version will be out on Novermber too. Maybe around March 2013, maybe there won't be a PC version, who knows what Ubisofts plans are for AC3. I believe they didn't like it that much seeing ACR on the internet over a week before official relesease date. We all know that was their fauld. They could have released the PC game simultanously with the console version. The files on DVD are from October anyway.

ACB was online two or three days before release but not more than one week. I'm talkiing about "playable" before release date and not about "DVD Image" available for download.

So I failed some missions and replayed them but still didn't get Fond Memories achievement. I have 100% synchronization in all sequences. Anyone got it ? It's the only uPlay thing I'm missing. ACR trophies are way easier than previous game.

Well, some people are saying the achievement unlocks when you 100% synch the main story sequences. You dont even need to synch all master assassin missions, open treasure chests, no Desmond, no secondary memories...
I'll replay another mission to see if the achievement pops up.

Finished this. Fantastic story for a video game, but gameplay wise I found it was lacking when compared to AC2 and ACB. There was so much more to do in those games. I'm really looking forward to the unfolding of this story in 2012 with AC3. I hope we get to play most of the game as Desmond using his abilities and maybe a bit added from some other character from the past.

It was a good game overall but I'm afraid it didn't make my top 5 for this year. There's still Arkham City and L.A Noire left to play this year but so far my top 5 would be:

1. Deus Ex HR.
2. The Witcher 2.
3. TES V Skyrim.
4. Portal 2.
5. Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood.

I'm sure Arkham City will steal some spot there.

It should be unlocked but I just started playing the game, so I don't know where exactly that mission is.
Also it has the 3 Uplay Rewards for this game:

Not sure if this will work, but could you share your savegame? Maybe (a very big maybe) we can unlock that with your saves like it worked on AC2.

BTW. Anybody knows what the "40.spool" in "AppData\Local\Ubisoft Game Launcher\spool" is for?

Just finished it, took me 23 hours, which is actually longer than Brotherhood. (And I still haven't collected all Animus fragments and didn't complete 1 or 2 guild challenges).

An EXCELLENT addition to the franchise. Storywise it's almost as good as Assassin's Creed 1, the characters are great and finally Ezio has some character as well. The combat system is improved somewhat because of the harder enemies (Janisarries, who block/dodge/counter your attacks 90% of the time, and the also have a handgun).

I'm serious, this is so far my favorite Assassin's Creed game, right after AC1. The philosophical questions are back, and both the Altair's and Ezio's story are closed in a style never seen in Assassin's Creed game before.

Definitely in my top 5 games of the year.

Here are some of my favorite images from the post-assassination conversations (obviously spoilers inbound).

One
Two
Three
Four

There are also many, many other great quotes, but I was too involved in a story to press the screenshot button Laughing

Thanks dude. It works! The only problem is (probably a game bug) that the secret location marker might appear and then disappear or not appear at all. If that happens, just go back to the Animus island, and then back to Ezio again. The icon should reappear then.

Other than that, I'm really liking the way this game looks. It reminds me a lot of AC1. AC2 looked too cartoonish, and although Brotherhood was improved, it still had that cartoony feel. I am pleased to discover that AC: R looks a lot sharper.
