I know I'm late but you need to check out Steins;Gate right now!
It's about time travel (and in a very good way). In fact, even those of you who aren't that into anime might want to check it out!
I just finished watching Steins;Gate ... man, I think this is the best anime of 2011. The story was amazing and the visualls were stunning. Wow...just...wow.
Some parts were based on the john titor hoax xD....funny
I tried Code Geass once and didnt like the drawing style at all.
beside the fact that people have colorful Hairs,I find the Art style quite good, but ho well.
I'm pretty much done for now watching animes until new berserk will out,I just have high standards when It comes to TV Series, and after watching quality like Monster and Death Note,it's hard to watch other animes cuz they are so far beyond.
Im kinda in the mood for Sci-Fi anime atm so i rewatched :
Legend of Galactic Heroes
Heroic Age
Infinite Ryvius
PlanetES
there is one more show i´d like to rewatch, but i cant remember its name.
All i remember is this,
ppl lived on a planet (wasnt the Earth), adults dont get their children the normal way ( i think they are cloned). When theyre teenager, they have some kind of test, and if they fail they get killed. So when this boy has his test he obviously fails it, and when he is about to die some other fellow resuces him. He brings him to a starship, (which is some kind of prototype they stole from the goverment of the planet), there he meets other ppl whol failed the test or didnt contribute to the community of the planet . The guy who rescues him is the hero for the ppl on this ship, but hes very sick ,so he fell in some kind of coma , but before that he begs the boy to lead his ppl to a safe planet, where they can live. And so begins the journey.
I remember lots of details but i cant remember the damn name
Hellifant, considering you like sci-fi, you had better watched Steins;Gate by now (I'm assuming you have but just on the off chance you haven't)!
It's fucking awesome. Even non-anime fans would like it.
I deeply loved Neon Genesis Evangelion (in fact The End of Evangelion is one of my favorite movies, it's one of those I'm not afraid of calling a masterpiece with the full definition of the word), also Death Note and Monster and enjoyed Rurouni Kenshin Trust & Betrayal.
First thing that comes to mind is for you to instantly get the "20th Century Boys" manga. I know, it's not an anime (sadly) but it's made by the same author that made Monster and it has a great story with great depth just like Monster. Very well drawn and everything, the whole manga can be found with english text! Don't get the live-action movies, they don't do the manga justice at all.
As for anime, get Steins;Gate. Great sci-fi, you should like it I think. With that obligatory recommendation out of the way, you should try Code Geass! I know, it looks aesthetically odd and unappealing but it shares a few things with Death Note, the main character is fairly comparable to Raito/Light as well. It took a while for me to give it a chance but once I did I was hooked, and this is coming from someone who absolutely doesn't like mecha except for perhaps Evangelion.
You might also want to give "Mirai Nikki" a try, it's a newer show based on the manga with the same name, don't think it's finished yet. I've read the whole manga and it's pretty unique.
And since you liked the Rurouni Kenshin ova, you should check out the "Sword of the Stranger" movie (in 1080p, from THORA), it's got some of the most well animated fighting scenes in any anime I've ever seen. I was seriously impressed with it, especially towards the end. It's not dark like the Rurouni Kenshin ova but it has samurais and just as well animated fighting scenes!
There's probably loads more to recommend based on what you liked, I've seen most of animes worth watching, I'll think about it and come back with more recommendations when I remember some of them.
Thanks, never heard of Steins Gate before, you definitely got me interested, as for Code Geass, I tried watching it during it's run, but I couldn't get past it's unappealing visual style, I might try it again in the future.
I am aware of the remakes of Evangelion, I've already seen the first 2 movies, and I believe the third is due to be released later this year.
I heard there is also a planned Live Action movie that has been in pre production phase for some 6 years, I don't know though if I want it to see the light of day or not, it's one of those movies that could only be either a masterpiece or a complete failure.
Thanks very much, I have seen Berserk actually but am intrigued to pick up the manga and continue the story, it is indeed a very disturbing universe. Twelve Kingdoms sounds like a winner, i'm going to give it a go
*Edit* Actually i'm beginning to remember the final few episodes of Berserk and how shocking and gruesome they were, I can only imagine how the manga progresses and the disturbing sights within
Omg... Un-Go was so damn good. In just 11 episodes, the way the character motivations and personality along with smatterings of world building was fit in is nothing short of awesome. Everyone must watch this show now!!
The mysteries were okay and a bit predictable but really they aren't the true focus of the show, it gets better with multiple viewings and I'm definitely going to watch it soon in the near future.
Gosick and Kamisama No Memochou are also detective type shows like Un-Go but that is where the similarity ends. Next on the list are those two when I get some free time.
