My take on this game, well ubi finally slipped up (abut time!) and this game is not better than the previous one AC:B which will remain the best in the whole series imo (all 13 of them).
Question 1: where be the climbing?!
AC:B had the best climbing yet, some of the buildings were quite tall and challenging one of them was uber-cool (the dome where you climbed from the outside down), most important it had variety and you felt each tower/church/whatever was unique. AC:R I don't know what happened, they went all the way back to AC1 a great game for the time but a humble begging and climbing was a drag where every tower was the same, basically they killed the whole climbing thing (the hook doesn't help either it just makes it easier) and I get 0 satisfaction when climbing now, a big step back.
Question 2: where are my assassin missions?!
Not to mention mercenary, thief, hooker missions, but assassinations is the main thing since this is an assassination game, AC:B again had a lot of variety two missions never felt the same and now all gone? Why? Huuuge step back.
Question 3: what happened to I can just wander the city looking for fun?
In AC:B you could just run around not doing missions and it was fun, there were people stealing money from you and you would chase them on the rooftops, push them from the rooftops or just beat them up. Now you have people trying to kill you but it happens like once in a full moon and I'm not sure about the stealing part I can't remember chasing anyone maybe it happened once wtf?
Question 4: no more riddles solving?
Another example of bad content replacing, instead of searching landmarks for the sign and solving some puzzles now you get a fps with brick placement, you can say this one is a matter of taste or... no you can't, the first one like in AC:B was cooler and it had artistic value, searching paintings for clues etc.
Question 5: where is the mission variety?
Well this one doesn't seem fair AC:B really shines here, the da Vinci missions, the wolf sign missions (query was awesome), hookers, assassinations, mercenary, thief missions, now replaced by den missions where you train your assassins, defend the den missions, searching for the circle thingy are the new dungeons missions, it's better than AC1 in terms of variety but not as good as AC:B and AC2.
So in summary AC:B >>>>>>> AC:2 >>>>> AC:R>AC1. Still a great series but god damn, I KNOW they can do better, kinda, no pretty disappointing, it's better to just replay AC:B than play this again. Still can't believe they just crossed out the climbing, puzzles I can see I guess it's part of dumbing down but is climbing too complicated now?

Well, the nfo doesn't say anything about copying saves + many people are reporting that just typing in random letters works for them.

I entered lulsors as a password and it worked so I doubt it has any restrictions, I bet you can just type in 1 and it should work.

Just finished this, around 22 hours at about 91% synchronization. Apart from little things (mostly gameplay related) that annoyed me the game was absolutely brilliant. In the story department it beats AC2 and ACB, but I still consider the first game the best. Jesper Kyd really nailed the soundtrack for this one. What else... I was annoyed by the fact that they kind of messed up Desmond, but they made Altair better. His accent is awesome, he looks better now and he just seems like an even better character now. Also, his single hidden blade combat style shits all over Ezio's full of gadgets and what not combat style. After they finish with this story, I would really want to see the first game remade using the best things from all the games in the franchise, but things that fit in that time period. I miss Altair and the holy lands... it just was so much better! The dual hidden blades and the pistol in the Altair sequences from this game were so out of place though... Well, that's pretty much it, can't wait to see what happens next! While Altair and Ezio's stories are finished, Desmond still has things to do. I just hope they bring some major changes to the next game.

Me too!
I think we're the only ones, though. All I see is constant bashing of the first one.

AC1 is beautiful and for me was really awesome. I liked the whole premise and story much more with that one but I have to hand it to them, they evolved the game-mechanics much better in the sequels so for me it's hard to choose which one is better than the other.

Guys, I'm stuck in some mission, if anyone can share some lights:
Spoiler: |
The Prince's Banquet. I'm inside the palace yard all dressed up as a bard or whatever, I detected the first templar and the game tells me I have to "get in position and play the lute so my assassins act" I stand in front of the guy and I play the song after song and nothing happens! What is it supposed to happen? Should my disciples come and kill him? (I think they're on missions I sent them before starting this memory). Am I missing something?
|
EDIT: nevermind I just started pushing the guy around all while singing and Yusuf gracefully killed him. Annoying bug

Spoiler: | You're pretty much doing it right, you stand in your place, play your song and Yusuf stabs the fucker in the back and hides him. Don't think it's related to "your" assassin's since some of the kills are done by Yusuf himself. |

Spoiler: | Try playing different songs (press all the usual action buttons.) I think you have to make the crowd entertained so that they clap and are excited. Also make sure you activate your Eagle Sense and stand before the right guy, I think he should be glowing in gold/yellow. It doesn't matter if your assassins are on a mission |

I edited my post. I managed to get him killed without using eagle sense. Thanks for the quick reply anyway!
EDIT: the rest of the kills are going swiftly. What a great mission! I don't know why but it's giving me an Inglourious Basterds vibe

Did you guys watch Embers? What do you think, can we expect to see China in the next game? I sure as hell would like that. An asian setting would bring a change to the series and also, that way they have yet another reason to change the combat system.

Ezio has more gadgets than Batman. Very practical for a free running silent assassin. He would probably sound like C-3PO while moving...

The strange thing is that their "Updates Database" site is still there and working....Maybe they are changing servers locations or something.
Edit:
"Some server issues, from what I was told.
Nothing to worry about, it will be back before you can say "csrinru" three times quickly"

This is gonna be littered with some spoilers. I'll try to keep it to a bearable level.
@madmax17:
You have to figure in that this was made in about a year. Afaik production started about the moment Brotherhood was released. If you take that into account some of the gameplay elements they added are quite impressive.
But I agree with you for the most part. Except the climbing part.
They modeled Constantinople. What were they suppposed to do? Add building that weren't there? Sure they could've but meh.
@DarkRohirrim:
Before anything: The dual blade design, iirc, was devised by Altair after all so it's just to see him use it.
I'm pretty sure we can expect some major changes for AC3. After all it's been in development since AC2 was finished, so that's what? Three years?
Aaaanyway. My main point is: You thing the story of ACR was better than that of ACB / AC2? O.o Are you one of those people who value the historic storyline over the Desmond story arc? Though even then I wouldn't understand it.
AC2 / AC:B was way better in the story department. You had Ezio first trying to survive then, rebuild the Assassin's and then avenge his family buy bringing the Borgias down.
In AC:R you have Ezio... doing what exactly? Trying to get into a library. That's about it.
The characters (except Ezio and Sofia) are bland, flat and almost non existant.
It takes ages for the villain to emerge and even then my reaction was like "Yup, we now have a villain." And the BIG plot twist? Could've called it if I had even given a damn about the story at that point.
Embers did more for the evolution of Ezio than AC:R.
The one thing I really liked were the Desmond sequences. They were unique and what is to be learnt about Desmond is actually quite interesting.
Regarding embers / possible next setting / and some AC:R ending spoilers
Spoiler: | I don't see China being the next setting. Though it would be nice I don't see how they can make this work. Unless one of Ezio's children went to China - since Desmond can only relive his ancestor's memories - because there's no indication whatsoever that Ezio trained any of his kids in the ways of the Assassins. So why would they go there?
What sounds rather plausible in regards to AC:R's ending is that we actually get to control Desmond for the most part. I mean they know where the grand temple is and Desmond utters "I know what we have to do" so... that's that.
There's this little part of me that expects them to just finish Desmond's story off in AC3 which means the main story is done and they're free to release as many bloody spin offs as they damn well please. :/ |

@Reklis
Spoiler: | It is known at this point, that Desmond is a fucked up compilation of several bloodlines, reviving memories not only by his father side (Altair), her mother too (Ezio). I'm almost thinking that his birth was planed a long time ago, with the only purpose of compiling bloodlines (as a database?).
With that in mind, the next assassins creed could be anywhere with a brand new ancestor taking a coffee with Pepe Ramirez in Mexico. |

Spoiler: | I thought about that and yeah... the best way to do that would be to play as Ezio's daughter (this would bring another change to the series). Sofia gets killed by templars or something. She then seeks revenge and remembers that the last assassin her father talked to was Shao Jun, so she goes to China to find her. I would really love a major change of the setting as it's getting quite boring. Also, that way they could also make a better combat system, based on Shao Jun's moves from Embers. |
