It was damn useful though - the last server I played on, half my team weren't in squads, because they didn't know how to join one manually. Grrrr.

This game likes 8gb ram when you get to 1080 resolution, also from my own testing i dont go overv 1240 vram usage on my 570 settings are Everything ultra post aa on high and msaa on 2x fov set to 70 i notice 4x msaa goes over 1280 vram but no msaa or 2msaa keeps within the vram limit (64 player games a few minutes in as it needs a bit to fill your vram) my game runs butter smooth like that, also i have bf3.exe set to switch aero off when launched saves you 110mb vram.

System
2500k 4.5ghz
8gb ddr3
570 @ 810
Res 1920x1080

In nv control panel pre rendered rrames set to 2.

Runs lovely the combo of fxaa on high and msaa either off or at 2x is alot less blurry than both maxed, just fxaa on high is nice as is just msaa at 4x seems bith maxed is just too blurry for my taste plus msaa takes a good chink of performance wheras fxaa doesnt really hit it.

Stange that it likes 8GB of ram, it's a 32bits executable an should not use more than 4GB

It's not that it's using 4GB of ram. It's that it's forcing the whole system to start swapping programs/services to the windows pagefile if you only got 4GB. I'm guessing that with 8GB the OS never detects that the minimum threshold of free memory has been reached so it doesn't swap as much.

Thats possibly exactly why their is a fairly large difference between 4 and 8 with bf3 , trouble is people with 4gb tend to blindly defend it as "enough" (not saying anyone here is) so people often fob it off but truth is if you have 8 test yourself its certainly a game that needs more than 4gb ram to run smooth.

Weeehhh... i just found out why i cant play on ultra on my system (phenom x4, 8gb ddr3, 560ti-oc sli). Its the goddamn 1gb vram, which is way to less. Disabling Windows Aero frees more then 100(!)mb of vram, and that was the final piece resource i needed to play lag free on ultra with 2x aa and 4x as.

Just came across this topic. http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=354707

Seems that the good old Phenom x4 (my old cpu) is quite a bottleneck for BF3 Wink

You should see how fluid it goes when you have stable 60... Wink

It's been said a couple of times on this forum already (and most got it aswell), but the i5-2500k is a solid investment for a new cpu if you want one that lasts for quite some time.
If money is no probs go i7-2600k.

The new nvidia drivers 290.36, broke the resolution for some people, in BF3 and other games. Basically, you select 1920x1200 at 59.95 hz, and it will for some reason, put the res to 960x1200, and fucking up the screen. Laughing If you set refresh rate to 59.85hz it fixes it. God nvidia, can't you do shit right?

Also, just tested BF3 on Damavend Peak conquest, 64 players on the server. Settings all High, 1680x1050, 2xMSAA, 16xAF, no HBAO/SSAO. Ran pretty much 60 FPS most of the time, with Vsync on, dipped a few times to 55. I've set prerender frames to 2 in nvidia control panel. Using Phenom II 955 @ 3.2 Ghz, 8 gigs ram, GTX 570 OC. This is with the new drivers.
