Weeehhh... i just found out why i cant play on ultra on my system (phenom x4, 8gb ddr3, 560ti-oc sli). Its the goddamn 1gb vram, which is way to less. Disabling Windows Aero frees more then 100(!)mb of vram, and that was the final piece resource i needed to play lag free on ultra with 2x aa and 4x as.

i got 1gb vram, play on ultra without a problem. Only deferred AA is set to 0

i got 1gb vram, play on ultra without a problem. Only deferred AA is set to 0


I have 1250MB vram but I can't set texture and meshes quality to Ultra as the vram usage goes up to full 1250Mb and shortly after stuttering begins. Those values are then set to High. Everything else on Ultra, PostAA set to medium (High blurs the screen too much for my taste) and Deferred AA to 4x. Plays smoothly with those settings.

570 right? Smile , I had to reduce the details too in order to play smoothly even on 64 people servers.

Now I have ~60fps at 1080p, everything on high except for the textures on Ultra, deferred AA 2x and ssao instead of hbao. It's the best compromise that I could find

Well, in case of my 5870, setting the shadows to High while leaving everything else on Ultra helps to keep the game smooth framerate wise. But I do have AA disabled completely though - that one just kills my performance (the deferred one).

I had stuttering after playing a while in the beta when I had textures on Ultra (setting on High solved this). But this no longer happens in the full game (completely fine on Ultra), so this is not simply a VRAM issue. Could be the main RAM - I upgraded from 4 to 8 between beta and retail.
But again, I suspect MSAA is gonna eat up a lot of VRAM (this should be the most taxing option in the game), so I am not affected by this much since I have it disabled.

You make an interesting point there MinderMast as I'm on only 4Gb of ram and that's a bitch too when it comes to quitting the game as my PC starts swapping out the other programs from my pagefile and it takes around 45 sec-1 min (the only other game that made this happen was GTA IV). I can use 4x AA with no problems though, as long as I keep textures/meshes/shadows on High. GTX570 here (high five ixigia Very Happy).

This game likes 8gb ram when you get to 1080 resolution, also from my own testing i dont go overv 1240 vram usage on my 570 settings are Everything ultra post aa on high and msaa on 2x fov set to 70 i notice 4x msaa goes over 1280 vram but no msaa or 2msaa keeps within the vram limit (64 player games a few minutes in as it needs a bit to fill your vram) my game runs butter smooth like that, also i have bf3.exe set to switch aero off when launched saves you 110mb vram.

8gb ddr3
570 @ 810
Res 1920x1080

In nv control panel pre rendered rrames set to 2.

Runs lovely the combo of fxaa on high and msaa either off or at 2x is alot less blurry than both maxed, just fxaa on high is nice as is just msaa at 4x seems bith maxed is just too blurry for my taste plus msaa takes a good chink of performance wheras fxaa doesnt really hit it.

I have one problem with this game. And i have it since the last patch. Don't know if it's been mentioned already, but i could really use some help.

I join the multiplayer game, for example. And everything works perfect. But when we finish one map, and switch to another, my client gets stuck. Also, it happens that first time i start the origin and battlelog and try to join a game, my clients get stuck loading the level..

This also happens in singleplayer campaign, when i finish one mission and the game starts loading the map for next one.

Anyone having this problem or is it just me? Okay

I don't have that problem but I know some friends who have it and happens to them while we're playing together online. They tell me their screen gets all black and just stays there with the mouse pointer visible, the only way out is to ctrl-alt-del and kill the process. It's weird cause one of them has almost the same hardware as me (same cpu, same gpu, same amount of ram). Also, if you read on the official forums, many people report the same issue.

I feel relieved that I don't have that specific problem, I have long loading times when map is changing instead (I rather have that one). When I'm finally able to spawn my team mates are already running for the first flags, and no vehicles left. I can live with that though.

@adslmaster weird thing your findings, for me it's fxaa the one which blurs the screen and not msaa. Also maybe I can set everything to ultra if I do as you did, disabling aero when running bf3? I guess I will have to do some testing.

Yup, it's that thing. Black screen and cursor visible. And only ctrl-alt-del helps..
Oh well, i guess i should live with it and hope for another patch..

Stange that it likes 8GB of ram, it's a 32bits executable an should not use more than 4GB

It's not that it's using 4GB of ram. It's that it's forcing the whole system to start swapping programs/services to the windows pagefile if you only got 4GB. I'm guessing that with 8GB the OS never detects that the minimum threshold of free memory has been reached so it doesn't swap as much.
