So i finally managed to get online in my studend home here in NY.
The problem is that they use some kind of content blocking software, Astaro.

It even blocks the hump, which is pretty bad for me. Sad I can access this site with some web proxies, but those are slow and most have some issues displaying the site correctly. I would want to use a VPN, but somehow it doesn't work. I signed up for ibvpn, but apparently the admin here has also blocked those servers, as I cannot even ping them...

Does anybody know how to circumvent the content blocking? Free would be great, but I would be willing to use a paid service if it would work correctly.

What also annoys me is that there is some kind of limit on single downloads. Every file larger than a certain amount (like 3 or 5 MB) is predownloaded on some server here, then checked and only then can I download the file to my computer. When I want to download larger files within a program (like for example a flash player update) it fails immediately. Is there also a way around this?

Ok so I got it to work with Ultra Surf for now. It's free and speeds are alright for me. The network here is overloaded anyway, so not much to gain there.

Dumb shits. They think censorship and blocking are the greatest protections ever. lol wut

Well, you can give a try at http://hidemyass.com/ .And if there is no way out,you can buy a 3G modem. At least i know they are cheap in USA.

Good luck with that. Smile
