oh yeh, and another fun bug went back to a dragon area that i had been to before, and is listed as 'cleared' on the map, but there was a dragon there again, perched on his big stone rune wall or whatever the fuck you call it. killed it, and i got that usual chanting you get when you are near one of those words of power things, but i had already killed that dragon and retried that word so naturally i didnt get a duplicate. weeeee bugs
dont need on stinkin trees or higher ground to slap em around any more
What's your character level, archery level and bow damage?
I'm at level 41, archery on 100. My vanilla daedric bow does 97 damage (not including arrows) and that's with me wearing gauntlets that do +30%, helmet +25% and a ring that does +15% bow damage
When not sneaking, it still takes me about 8 arrows to kill a giant and 12 for a mammoth.
is paralyze really worthwhile on a bow? a 2 second paralyze, if it happens, is that really going to be all that beneficial?
Personally I'd say paralyze isn't all that useful especially when you're using a bow, the reason being, you absolutely do not want your target to just drop down lying on the floor. You've basically just made them prone, in other words, harder to hit. The same thing happened in Oblivion as you hit level 100 in marksman.
Also with the way the clipping works in this game and hit cages, sometimes arrows don't hurt an enemy that is lying down even though the arrow is clearly hitting it.
This is the reason why I haven't taken the paralyze perk in archery even though I'm at level 100 in it. The stagger perk is much more useful since it leaves them standing in the same spot. I would've preferred it if the top perk in archery was just a longer stagger.
yep, that's all very very true, however there have been a few fights where paralyze was completely indispensable too even still, one particular fight was in a big open room with only two mobs total, one being a huge dwarven golem thing like a mini skyscraper and the other was a very heavy armored guy there to watch over the golem, he bitchslapped me reliably in 1 or 2 hits at most but poisoning my arrows and drinking tons of heal potions finally downed him without aggroing the golem and made it just barely possible.
while it's not always useful with archery the times when you can use paralyze to kite more effectively make paralyze poisons on arrows an indispensable tactic.

Yeah, I'm not saying paralyze is bad, far from it, it's very useful in situations like you described. However as an archer, when it's activated on your bow, it makes subsequent shots difficult.
It's annoying that you can't choose when to paralyze someone if you get the paralyze perk in archery, instead it's just down to chance.

If you're at level 100 and you can't hit a paralyzed prone target, how'd you get to 100? Shooting deer? It's the most useful thing for the bow when it triggers, especially in dungeons where you're never more than 30 feet away. If the stagger went for any longer it'd feel like cheating, lower level enemies die in one shot anyway, so a slight stagger on high level NPCs seems appropriate.
I'm not saying I can't hit a proned target, I'm saying it's more difficult (why do you think people in the military or in other shooting games prone?) and sometimes impossible due to hit cages, object clipping or the enemy ends just up lying behind an object completely.

perk? i'm talking alchemy man, that paralyze poison recipe is overpowered and funny too!
and yeah, there are certain situations paralyze is just gonna let you fuck yourself like if enemies are behind waist high clutter or something but it's still useful often enough that you really shouldn't be running around without at least a few poisons made up for when you have the chance.

this is my gear
the ring and the necklace will be swapped out sooner or later... but i dont wear cheap bling, so im waiting till i find another high-end replacement, and then i can throw a double enchant on it and swap out what im wearing now.
after putting together this set i did some dungeon filled with mages, and just breezed through it. stealth? wtf is that... just ran through it, *ping* *ping* *ping* *ping* finished
glad ive finally got a decent amount of storage weight.
very very nice
i still like to sneak up and steal their dirty dirty souls
and if that goes south, sanguine rose gives me a minute to regroup and plan a better skull crush
i fuckin love this game
Spoiler:
oh and flame cloak?
holy fuck that shit is AWESOME
Smithing and Enchanting does not cap so at a skill ~90 - 100 with a potion (At a higher level since that's when they become available.) with +40% along with a full set of armor with the same enchantments plus a weapon, amulet, ring and what else you can equip (spell / scroll too?) you could reach 200 - 300 damage with even lower-tier weapons.
(Infinite if you first boost enchantment in the same way and then enchant at a few hundred hundred percent boost of that skill, still takes a good number of hits to fell a opponent on higher levels and master difficulty unless you abuse this entirely like in the above example.)
Even so it should probably be hard capped at 100 (for all skills.) to avoid unbalancing the entire game in this way though it's down to user preference.
EDIT: Or cap the boost at 10% of each grade so legendary would be +50% or some such.

How do you even get that much damage? Purely by smithing? What was the dmg before you upgraded?
probably with boosting smithing/enchanting via potions (boost your alchemy with a potion, use that boost to make a stronger one, repeat till your stats are off the chart and then make a smithing and enchanting one and go craft your stuff).
Goddamn I need to go into smithing and enchanting.
How does one get to high level smithing and enchanting without completely overlevelling yourself? It's probably too late to start for my character, I'd be around level 55 by the time I can get all the main enchantment and smithing perks.
ummm well what i did was just every time i go out, kill a few furry woodland creatures and skin them, turn it into leather, and make bracers - this levels up your smithing quite quickly.
then id just enchant them with some random crap. disenchant whatever you find rather than selling it, and make (or find) a weapon with soul trap, to keep your soul gem count high.
so whenever you come back from a quest to sell your loot, just craft as many bracers as you can, and enchant whatever you can, then sell it, and head back out...
also whenever you can, hunt out people who can teach you stuff for money.
question: smithing potions.. do they stack?! other potions like strength dont...
ones with a different value might, but identicals don't, if you're talking about how to do the smithing upgrade/exploit you basically get both to 100 and then quaff a smithing potion and go back and forth with the buffs for as long as you can stand to.
hmmm ok... well i used one smithing potion but i didnt do any exploit.
it might be enchanting and alchemy with maxed smithing as well, the method allows you to gain a buff to one and now that i'm thinking more about it probably have that result in a better enchant which results in a better smithing product to infinity, ask sabin if you really want to know, he's probably played the game and min maxed more than a bit of others and i know he's posted his character somewhere in here and it was godly.
Come on, he's a cheap ass. He was using the trees to bug out enemies, you really think he wanted any challenge from the game?
dont hate meh for using the environment to my advantage
besides its not like its glitching shit, its just using the terrain.
besides ffs i was taking on giants like that when my level was way lower and i was building a bow/light armor character!
that being said, you are kinda right.. my favourite part of these games is getting badass and smashing through shit like the fucking GOD that i have become... whats wrong with that?
finally... was i was travelling, some madwoman ran up to me telling me to hit her with the wabbajack because she knew i had it i fucking left it in my house, otherwise i wonder what woulda happened if i had hit her with it. has anyone had the same random event but actually whacked the chick with the wabbajack? anything interesting happen, like she turns into a hot naked chick? or a chicken?
