I believe you'll run into the SecuRom release date checker. Though, given how long it'll take to download the clonedvd, by the time it's down it'll be the 25th, and you should be good to go.

I guess it's to show how empty Gotham will be without the Joker. How these two completed each other, how despite his constant crimes and killing sprees, he had a real soft spot for Batman. It's obvious that he will be brought back (with the Lazarus pit or something, it's not Batman without the Joker), it's just there to hammer home how Batman must feel for failing to save a life, especially someone who was constantly there to keep him occupied.
