For starters, Square Enix announced that they’re planning to bring the classic RPG game, Chrono Trigger, to both mobile platforms. However, no exact date was given for its release. Nevertheless, this spells great news to gamers since it’s regarded as one of the most popular RPGs during the 90s. In addition, they also mention that they’re also going to bring along Dragon Quest Monsters and Ithadaki Street as well to really bring the RPG mania to the mobile scene.
Can't you play these on snes emulators on your phones ?
Jeez, Andoidfags just want *anything* just to say they have it on their phones. Are you even gonna play it for the thousandth time ?
iOS-fags just the same, and the benefit of a proper version MADE for the OS is that hopefully, touchscreen integration is better. Sure, I can run it in an emu (in fact, I have), but it wasn't intended for a touchscreen so it's not ideal.
I'm not a fan of the hyper-blurry visuals and uber-crisp text though. This smacks of a shoddy port job, unlike the phenomenally delicious ports of Final Fantasy III-DS and Secret of Mana. Still... I'm buying it

I strongly doubt it's going to be a 3D remake, it's just an upscaled/touch-centric port of the 2D original. Much like SD2 is =)
Sadly I was wrong It's not even an upscaled version like SD2 (Secret of Mana) was... this is very much the SNES/NDS version through and through, just edge smoothed like 2xSAI. Shame, but who really cares? It's fucking CHRONO TRIGGER!

Chrono Trigger is 628 MB uncompressed. Of these, 601 MB are .CAF files containing the game's music. In Apple Lossless format.
.... Seriously? You're emulating one of the very best jRPGs ever created and you're doing it via the fucking HIDEOUS Playstation port? Come on man, you should know better!
well,it was mostly for testing purpose actually, didn't really played that much. the emulator, beside the controls which are awful. seems to working quite fine when running games, but there are still some annoying problems.
I will definitely get the Proper Version soon.
I remember importing the CT/FFIV "Final Fantasy Chronicles" PS1 title from America and being absolutely GUTTED at the hideously poor quality emulation. It wasn't even a port, it was just an emulator (you could rip the Japanese ROMs from the CD ) and a bad one at that. It ran slowly and had horrible loading times, even into/out of the menus.
Such a shame Ah well, at least the Pod/Phone release is the NDS version with FLAC audio (most likely taken from the PS1 version, since I highly doubt SE are going to go to any extra effort with the OST)
While we're on the subject, how is PS1 emulation for you on the Pad? I can't afford a Pad2 (sadly) though I am giving a lot of consideration to selling my Pod and getting a 32GB Pad1.
I think the Emulator is actually build for Iphone/Ipod thouch, but Ipad/2 can run most of what Iphone/Ipod thouch can,and that emulator as well.
I tested only 2 games(no 3D games)Chrono and Castlevania:SOTN,Chrono working fine as far as I tested,as well Castlevania, the Main Problems: Controls,ESPECIALLY with Castlevania and it make it quite unplayble.
another problem-Black Screen,as far as I tested. you have 2 options of controls sets:buttons beneath the game, which make it seems like a huge gameboy, buttons in the Center of the Screen, which make it more of the "touch feel".
but seems that every game as problems with one the the controls options, and choosing one option make "break" the game.
the only games which I find "playable" with the Emulator, are the simplest(when it comes to controls) as you can get.

Chrono Trigger is perfect on snesoid on android. i can even bind keys to physical keyboard on my desire z and remove transparent touch controls from the screen!

Oops, forgot to update... I finished Chrono Trigger on IOS and it was fantastic, with one critical failing; the controls. Perhaps on a tablet they would have felt better, but on the small screen they were clunky and agonising to use. Really out a downer on the game in general, though luckily it still felt like Chrono Trigger and I loved every minute
Another failing is for iPad and Retina-based device owners (I finished CT on my iPod before I got my iPad) the visuals aren't Retina or full screen compatible, making it look downright hideous.
Well the translation is exactly how it was originally in the Japanese version. You can blame the original English translator for the SNES, which was the inaccurate one What else sucks is Square-Enix' refusal to to make universal apps.. Secret of Mana and Chrono Trigger look ghastly on the iPad.

I don't see it as milking either. Chrono Trigger has been released four times -- SNES, PS1, DS and iOS/Android (and the iOS/Android versions are based off the DS, so that should count together) Four over the space of 17 years definitely isn't milking If you want milking, look at Final Fantasy 1 and 2;
NES, MSX2, WonderSwan, PlayStation, Gameboy Advance, PSP, Mobiles, iOS+Android enhanced ports - then the usual PSN and VC re-releases. That's milking
I really wish SE would put more effort into their ports though. Secret of Mana was magnificent, one of the best ports I've seen - with beautifully retouched visuals and audio. I also keep hoping they'll get off their arses and release Seiken Densetsu 3 (Secret of Mana 2) in proper English, perhaps like the iOS port of SD2/SoM, as well as the oft-rumoured FFV-3D and FFVI-3D (though apparently the DS didn't have enough juice to make FFVI-3D viable )
*I don't count VC and PSN since VC is the SNES version and PSN is the PS1.
