There are challenges that are being unlocked while you play the story. I don't know how many there are (I plan to play the story only) but to be fair you have to do those as well to claim you have played all the content of the game. Just because they have been separated from the narrative doesn't mean they are not content meant to be played. It's a racing game, you shouldn't be playing it for the plot, in the first place (Well I am, but I didn't buy the game and I am not the target audience anyway).
The story-races alone supposedly last 2 hours, but this doesn't include retries, cutscenes, qtes, etc.

Oh got damn it..
I had the same problem as you, sausje. So i shift+deleted the game (it was a 17gb version) and now i'm downloading it again (9gb this time). Damn, too much effort, and i know i'm going to be dissapointed..

Yea just wait a while, i only noticed it happening the first time, second time went alot faster.

there was a three year period where black box wasn't talking about making a need for speed game and they'll obviously claim it was worked on for three years but.... no one with a braincell is going to believe they spent 3 years on it.
from what it sounds like it's the only game worse than need for speed hot pursuit (recent one)
