|

So lately I've been seeing threads like: BF3 killed my computer, or my computer imploaded (due to a game), or my RAM died because of Skyrim...
WTF?
I'm afraid to install any new game xD
I love my PC

oh... my.. god.
ive just had a terrible thought... video games... for DECADES, computer AI's have been learning about us through GAMES... how we would fight in a war scenario, our behaviours, our reactions, our intelligence, our capabilities... these "games" we've been playing... my god... THEY KNOW US. THEY KNOW EVERYTHING ABOUT US...
we are so fucked.

MW3 tried to kill my computer but was unsuccessful. It would instantly and randomly shut down my PC immediately. It also tried making my video drivers not work but a reinstall sorted that. Luckily I completed the campaign before any damage was done.

Doom 3 almost killed my 9800 xt back then.
At first I thought all those white and red dots were new dust particle effects.
After the card was on 120+ degrees for a few hours and the plastic started to melt I finally noticed that the fan wasn't working for days!
I replaced it with a new one and the card kept going for another 1,5 years. Haha

My 80286 (12 MHz) had an EGA card, that one became shaky by playing to much Xenon and so.
The 80486 DX33 survived everything but I sold it some years later, I was broke.
Then years later bought me a dual processor system (1999 or so), 2 Celerons (300 MHz clocked at 450), this one lasted me quite for some years but I had to replace 2 VGA cards. The 3rd VGA card made the CPUs burn out. I didn't notice that though.
So next system was an Athlon with same VGA card and yes that one burned out too.
Another Athlon system burned out as well.
Some Phenom old system, had PSU burned out, mobo was shaky after that.
Current system i7, well recently had shitty mobo replaced, and got one borged memory module.
But in all those years only one HDD failed on me and that one I got for free.

Well I can't even remember how many graphic cards I replaced. Using your system at max with certain games is most certainly a show stopper too often.

I haven't had any break down apart from my G80's/G92's (although the second G92 seems to be doing fine still, haven't heard any complaints yet at least ). A game won't make it blow up, either the damn thing was faulty to begin with or the driver is malfunctioning (points at SC2 + lack of cooling).
