dataschmuck wrote: | hey JB I found out something interesting
try different settings for the
fShadowDistance
in the skyrimprefs.ini
yours is set to 16000
I think default is like 2500
now try 300
look at the shadows each time.
The higher the number, the further away shadows will appear (duh)
HOWEVER, the higher the number, the more pixelated the shadows become
with that ini value at 300, I can see individual strands of hair on shadows, but I can only see the shadows of objects that are extremely closeby.
....
This sucks. Why does shadow distance determine it's resolution. Maybe a bug? I hope it is so it can be fixed. |
I'll take a guess that because the consoles have limited memory and performance, there is a relatively small area of RAM used for shadows. It is then sized up, making it blocky, onto the ground.
I tried you suggestion to try fShadowDistance at 300 and 600 and it didn't change the shadows for me at all. Maybe if we can bump the size of the memory for shadows and use your low fShadowDistance setting then we can have nice shadows in-game for more than close-up shadows. Might make he engine will be unstable if we do that. I'm thinking the default 'supported' settings are the most stable and recommended, for now. I'm sure after lots of community testing & debugging of different settings we'll eventually get better shadows.

imo each dragon should've been uniqe and much much tougher to kill.
Also where can you find some daedra stuff? |
You didn't pay attention to the lore, right? ALL the dragons are being reawakened due to the end of times. |
yeah i did, but imo dragons are way to interesting to just spawn all over the place and so easy to kill once you gain a few levels.

I'm not getting a lot of spawning dragons here. Only seen a few the whole game. I'm level 13 I think.
EDIT: yup, lvl 13. Maybe your dragons are upset because their toilet is clogged.

The only thing that bugs me a bit are... well... bugs. For example, one time, after I did something (I have to assume, as I don't know what it was), my magicka started to regenerate at an absolutely insane level - it was virtually impossible for spells to even actually cost mana, because before they reached the target, the blue bar was full again. Had to reload a previous save to fix it. |
I hope you aren't a high elf and accidently activated the High Born ability ?
 |
I am a High Elf, but it wasn't High Born. It was active all the time, even after a 24 hours rest/wait.

Seriously when I'm looking at a specific house from a specific angle the framerate can drop into teens while a big dragon fights stay around 40 FPS. I have a GTX460, q6600 at stock and 4gb ram. Anyone have any performance recommendations what have small effect on the looks of the game? Currently I'm playing with maxed settings except for Shadows on High, Decals on High and 2XAA. |
Ultra on a GTX460? What resolution? Suggest you lower graphic settings (duh!). The game looks good on medium settings. Try that then gradually increase the settings to find what you like. |
My point is that I get good framerates(35+, usually 40-50) 90% of the time. The 460 is obviously overclocked of course. Anyway disabling AA and playing with FXAA only seems to help a lot(I can live with the blurriness) without making it too jaggy.

Aquma: check the "Active effects" in your stats menu. You may have magicka regeneration effects on you, the same thing happened to me when I was exploring the ruin for the Mage questline. The ability wore off eventually. Did this happen to you during that quest, perhaps?

Love it.
Slightly improved performance and a significant step forward in improving the image quality.
Just make sure to use also "Sharpen_fix_for_thoose_who_want_lowered_sharpening_effect-21-1-1".

Btw, any fix yet for mouse Y-axis being linked to fps? It gets unplayable indoors when the FPS skyrockets and the Y-axis is a chore.

Just spent my play session on nothing but crafting. Got a nice full set of my own crafted enchanted elven armor. Was difficult finding enough moonstone and quicksilver to craft it.

Fixes the Esbern quest that apprently is due to bad installs or somehow a damage to the files, I don't really know how that's possible (Unless the BSA is faulty by default or one of the scene releases is bad.) but it might help.
(EDIT: Or a bad Steam download, forgot about that.)
