Sarcastic? Razz I did not mean that he should not care about the story. Of course the story is/should be an important element of the game but, as far as I know, each TES game has its own story.

I'm saying that the story has never been the focus in TES games. It has never been very good either, but that's a different.. story.

No SSAO. Theres anti aliasing, transparency multisampling, depth of field, anisotropic filtering, bloom, hdr and some other standard stuff. Textures come in Low, Medium and High. I have them at high.

How are textures compared to Fallout 3/NV , also how does it compare in performance to those two?

My primary gripe with the game so far is how reminiscent some of the names are to scandinavian names. And then even more so when they're pronounced by english speaking people, the mental imagery really annoys me.
For instance, theres a grand mead hall for the companions, what they say is Jorrvaskr and thats it's name.
But when it's actually spoken it sounds like they say something which when translated back into english means "Dirt Washer". Which really doesn't make any sense.
And here you have these people going around being important and you're supposed to also think that it's quite an important place but you just cannot get this "Dirt Washer" out of your head and it makes it seem far less 'epic' and impressive Laughing
wtf is a dirt washer and why would you name a mead hall after one?

My cpu is a 2600k @ 4.5ghz, the textures are on par with those of new vegas, if a bit better in some places.

No wonder it's running great. It's a monster.

I wonder whether it's more CPU or GPU dependant. Scratch Head But I think I will be able to hit relatively high settings with my PC.

I doubt the game is very heavy on the CPU.

I have little doubts that it will be heavy on the CPU.
After all it's pretty much their version of gamebryo with a new name. Sad

Indeed. If their earlier games are considered, it'll be all about the CPU and specifically individual core performance.

Has Gamebryo ever been CPU heavy? I think not. Epsi, how much CPU utilization is it using? Does it have debug code in there (slows it down)?

2-3 fps difference between a Q8300 running at 2.5GHz-3.3GHz.

Besides that, switching from a E5200@3.6GHz to that Q8300@3.3GHz made no difference at all so I'd say that it's either very poorly optimized or CPU heavy.

Right, then you are agreeing with me. Gamebryo isn't demanding of CPU's. It's more GPU heavy. I think what you mean by 'cpu heavy' is what I mean by 'cpu light'.

Oblivion, Fallout 3 and New Vegas max out my first CPU core long before they even reach 50% utilization of GPU. That's on a 2500k@5ghz, GTX480.

Well, there is a race in the game called the Nord... so they're not terribly creative in that aspect.

I am pretty pysched for this game. I loved Morrowind:Bloodmoon, and a whole big game in that kind of environment just oozes fun to me.

Hmmm... no.
The only other game where something similar happened is GTAIV, and that game is far from being light on your CPU.

Every other game saw a performance boost from the overclock, the extra cores or both.

If a game is getting a boost from overclocking your CPU, then it's CPU heavy because the CPU is the primary factor in performance at your framerate/settings.

If you overclock your CPU from 2ghz to 999ghz and see zero performance increase then it's a GPU heavy game.

Wasn't heavily modded Oblivion very CPU demanding? If I remember correctly I had only about 10-20% utilization, but maxed out CPU core. If this time around it had decent multicore support it would be sweet (especially for mods).

Well, it wasn't a zero performance increase, just a very small one.

And besides, if it really was CPU lite why would it run much worse on my laptop (P7350@2GHz + 9600mGT, 1120x700) when compared to my Q8300@2.5GHz + 8800GTS 320MB, 1440x900?
And as for testing it with different GPU's I can't speak on the game itself, but Nehrim was all the same when tested in my system with that CPU and with either a 4890 or my current 6850.

Have we played the same Morrowind, the game with the deepest and richest lore created for a computer game? As an RPG it's not about a linear story, it's about the world being the story where you follow a main quest to discover that story.

Seriously djaoni, you start to come off as a troll.

You are comparing apples & oranges, so to speak. Different CPUs *and* GPU's there. I'm guessing that the 9600mGT is a poor performer compared to the 8800GTS 320. 8800GTS is a rather fast GPU as long as it isn't memory limited.

Are we are talking about Oblivion here? Remember also that, IIRC, it is only a single core application. I'm pretty sure Fallout 3, NV and Skyrim are multi-core aware. (GTA IV is a shitty console port period)

That might explain it then.
Now that I think about it, Fallout 3 performed much better than Oblivion on my system, and NV slightly below FO3 but still better than OB.

Guess I'm expecting the worst because skyrim brings oblivion to mind.

Me saying it never had a very good story doesn't automatically mean it was bad or even average.

Let me clarify even more. I don't even acknowledge Dragon Age 2, Modern Warfare 2 and whatever other shit that goes by as "good" story these days.

No idea if you're serious or not Epsilon but if so would you mind posting the exe file so I can poke around in it?
(Console commands and a variety of other useful info for example.)

(I'd ask you to upload the entire thing but that would likely cause some trouble. )

Apparently a few pages back it was discussed but I've no idea how accurate it is but thought it was worth a shot. Razz
(Also if the disc image is released and the key somehow appears early I could just decrypt that and use said exe. )
