Yes that is impressive, also the design of the landscapes and cities and dungeons with puzzles and varying corridors and environments in them, not just the same cookie cutter dungeons over and over like in Oblivion.
However not convinced yet that this is a better game.

Those are just looks, the graphics are better than Oblivion overall as well. Still doesn't make it a better game.

I am also not convinced yet. Been Playing for around 2 hours and didnt even started main quest. Ive only did 1 sidequest which was quite awesome for sidequest.

yeah. I remember them saying that everything I see is reachable. It would be epic if player can scale those mountains. Going to have to try

It has a lot more variation and diversity in landscape, NPC VA (though it's still subpar), quest design, dungeons and overal atmosphere. That alone makes it vastly superior to Oblivion for me.

To be clear, I am judging this based on watching snippets of teh streams.

This. I'm beginning to get a bit hyped too... it just seems to be way better than Oblivion, which seems to me like a game made of shit in a coffee break. It had absolutely nothing likeable. I wanted to play Nehrim yesterday and while I do like the mod and I want to finish it, I can't. There were still some retarded things left from the main game (like the psychic guards) and the engine is such a big fail... constant microstuttering, really low fps no matter the settings and it just makes any game which uses it absolutely dead. I ended up uninstalling Nehrim and I'll never install it again now, it's just frustrating.

Psychic guards! Thank you for remiding me, DR. To those who are playing/have played Skyrim; are the guards still psychic like they are in Oblivion and Morrowind? Steal a loaf of bread from one village, suddenly guards al over the entire world know you stole .. and, magically!, also know exactly which items in your inventory are stolen.

That irked me beyond belief.

I can't even tell you how easy that breaks the game for me. For example, yesterday in Nehrim, I stole some coins from some chests and nobody could ever see me taking them, yet when I go outside I find a guard on a bench and when I want to talk with him, he's like: You made a crime! You're going to jail now! Really?! I like how the AI works in Piranha Bytes's games in general, but especially when it comes to things like stealing something.

While playing last night, I decided to steal some iron ingots from the blacksmith after he had retired for the day. I crouched then ventured into his outdoor workshop and noticed that, when I was detected, my reticle went from _._ to an open eye looking thingamajig. As I didn't notice this at first, when I took the first iron ingot, the smithy's wife saw/heard me (and said something that was muffled by the wall between me and her) and I then had a bounty placed on my head for approx. 40GP (I can't remember as I didn't notice this either at first). I then reloaded my game from a save just before I stole the ingot and tried again. This time, I stayed a few steps further back before stealing the ingots. The wife didn't say anything and no bounty was placed on my head. I then proceeded to ransack the whole workshop, stealing everything that wasn't nailed down (and bravely attempting to steal a couple of things that were) and then went and killed a chicken. Of course, this put a bounty on my head, so I decided to kill everything in sight. After killing three people, I saw the last person on the street and decided to dispatch her with much haste. Once I killed her, I saw a message stating that I had killed the last witness so the bounty had been removed. I'm not sure if all of the bounty had been removed or if just the bounty from killing the smithy, his wife and the town's main NPC.

After about another hour of playing, I wandered into a new town and nobody came running up to me claiming that I was to be jailed or anything.

I hope this answers your question(s).

My biggest question is whether the combat plays crappy like on all gamebryo games (oblivion, etc.) or whether it actually feels good.

For instance, after all the patching, Dark Messiah of Might and Magic was a great game as far as combat went, and made Oblivion feel like boxing in mud.

Another question would be if jumping up on rocks or running on hills had the same "gamebryo can't handle 3d!" feel to it.

Of course Dark Messiah had great combat. Apart from having a great combat system, it was a system based fully on player skill (stat system was very very light). Apart from Gothic 2, I can't name a single first person RPG which had engaging combat untill the end.
You can't compare the likes of Dark Messiah with a game like Skyrim since a combat mechanic like in Dark Messiah wouldn't fit in this game. Untill someone figures out how to integrate a stat system in the background, with an engaging player skill based system on the foreground, combat in first person RPGs will always be dull/shit.

So far, I can say that the jumping mechanic feels a bit more fleshed out this time around. As for the combat, I typically don't like FPS/TPS action rpg combat mechanics as you lose your frame of reference when a horde comes at you. But this feels a bit more physical, people actually respond to your hits by either falling back or falling down (once their health gets low).

The one thing that I do not like so far is that I don't believe that I can increase my acrobatics skill by merely jumping everywhere I go like I used to in Oblivion...

No classes or skills as such any longer (Other than health/mana/stamina).
(Perks though and which race you start as plus their abilities.)

(Has been mentioned a few times I believe but easier to just answer the question than to dig trough all these pages for similar questions, ha ha.)

EDIT: Console section has some other info, kinda confirms it's pretty streamlined even comparing to Oblivion.

Are there some great high-level spells? I remember I had loads of fun turning people into stone in BG2 or so. I have yet to encounter a magic system as good as that in BG2.

The DnD universe has the best and most versatile selection of spells, the creativity is awesome, but it builds on a very solid backbone of attributes, and that's why the versatility is such a plus. Modern RPGs don't even come within shooting distance of how good the spells in the DnD universe are. Your expectations are too high.

From what I've seen, casting is easy peasy in this game.

Skills still level up with use.
You still level up when enough skills level up. (You don't have to sleep to level up though)
Once you level up you can upgrade health, mana or stamina, and add one point to a perk. Each skill has multiple perks that branch out like a tree (around 8 on average I think). e.g. initial perk for two-handed weapons is 20% more damage for each level in the perk. (the perk has 5 levels maximum). Perks require you to have a certain number of skill points in their skill before they can be bought.

I haven't played the game (Don't own a X360) but I believe it remains similar though with XP instead of stat gains so you kill and solve quests to level up and then spend that point either on a larger health, mana or stamina (was it called fatigue again?) or on a perk.

EDIT: Actually I might be mixing things up, there are no attributes (strength and those to luck.) but there are fourteen or so skills still in the game down from the 21 in Oblivion and 27 in Morrowind. (~30+ in Daggerfall.)

EDIT: Yeah that was it.

Thanks for the answers.

So if I understand correctly, you have

3 main stats, health, mana, stamina

14 skills + about 8 perks to each skill ( about 122 perks then?)

The 14 skills level up by use (like jumping around for Acrobatic skill)

Additionally you get XP that you invest in the 122x5=610 perk-levels and the main stats.

Is that about correct?

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."
