After watching these xbox feeds, this is clearly the oblivion engine, it doesnt even look like an improvement, after all these years.
I truly hope the pc version looks better, because this version looks like a bloomy piece of crap... visualy.
Gameplay wise, melee as expected is horrible, with the added horror of finishing moves that look like they were lifted directly from FO3.

How so? I'm not seeing that. Oblivion was dumbed down a whole lot, had bad combat and a generic world. Skyrim looks like a huge improvement in almost every way. I see it as a solid evolution in the series. |
Combat is very simplified, if you ask me, especially in comparison to good melee combat systems, like Risen's. |
I didn't ask you. Epic fail on your comparison too. The combat that I played in Risen was worse than Oblivion. Ironic too that it was the poor combat in Risen that I grew so tired of that I uninstalled the game.
From what I've seen so far, Skyrim has good combat.

Risen's combat is much MUCH better than Oblivion's.

Not quite. There was quite a bit of dodging involved too or you'd get torn apart Gothic 2 style.
I dont even know why the two games are being compared to be honest, just two different takes on what action-rpg combat should be like. Thank fuck all games don't have similar combat.

Although Oblivion did have something of sorts associated with acrobatics.
Sabin's just jelly that he had trouble against 3 boars in Risen.

No need to get personal and nasty here. Last I checked, this was a forum, and you're simply bound to run in to opinions you don't agree with.
I mentioned Risen, because if I remember correctly, in g1/2 mobs didn't randomize their attack patterns (or not enough), and as such, someone, who studied them enough, could beat any mob with ease with 100% success ratio. Risen did mix stuff up a bit, and you needed a bit more reflex and safety.
Anyway, it was an active combat system, where you had to react to what the enemy is doing, not just block/attack, but dodge as well, charging attacks and parrying. And all of that timed well. From what we know, Risen will even deepen it with dirty tricks, and that sounds great.
To me, Oblivion's was the combat, that was a bore.

Both Piranha Bytes and Bethesda games have somewhat limiting combat. I think both systems are good at start, but you always get to a point where you have most success just mashing buttons. Generally Gothic/Risen games have better melee and Elder Scrolls better magic system. Again nothing spectacular, ideally I'd love to have Baldurs Gate/Icewind Dale magic system with Mount & Blade melee, but who knows if that could even work.

Oh, yeah, I did. lol sorry Radicalus. Well, you didn't answer the question as to exactly why the combat is simplified, just stated an opinion. nuff said anyway.
