NEWS UPDATE: November 1st, 2011 -- Developers have updated the firmware onboard the 'True Blue' dongle.
After much research and hard long days at coding, the solid support team behind the 'True Blue' dongle have now been able to encode all the BD-R booting information which was previously needed on 'special' discs to be patched directly into the PS3 firmware, so now with this firmware updated the dongle fully supports booting of all v3.6+ 'backups' which have been burned to normal 'off-the-shelf BD-R discs which recently become affordable and available worldwide.
Here is list of v3.6+ games that our trusted Crunching friend has tested and confirmed fully working and playable:
- Alice: Madness Returns
- Assassin's Creed: Revelations

Whuuu? Skyrim? MW3? Revelations? Tekken Hybrid?? How??

Pirate Eye-Patch On Opps, yeah well UC3 was released a week earlier, and that was a late slow upload by Duplex (they were busy doing other things) -- Stay tuned to the 'warez' channels those games are moving up the ladder from 'elite' pre-0-day servers to normal everyday push sites later this week once they been packaged and prepared to 'scene' rules -- (Cough) -- I had GT5 one-whole-month before any store day (aka) Google White PS3 Promo Disc -- Anyhow you get the idea, it was not almost 5am with no sleep I take a picture of my GT5 original. -- Stuff like this leaks down the chain of 'scene' command centers -- (cough) Pirate Mode Off

Oh. Ok then.

Once the dongle is in more hands, I am sure you see an updated 'backup manager' to support rips from the HDD, but I stated before there is 'legal' grey issues with it doing it out of the box, aka PSJB problems, research the court files and you will see why.
So sure at some point 'burning' will be removed by the end-user, we see what happens once various 'handy-dandy' scene members get hold of it.
As for CFW yeah it could be possible you never know, but their is like I said before two-sides to the 'scene', this one is 'commerical' just like previous dongles, at least it not stupidly priced like PSJB was.
I am sure the list of games will grow, it just these were the ones my friend was able to finish testing at the time I updated the news post.
More information on how, where, sizes, ripping, etc. -- Will be released by the weekend, along with some new HD videos of it in action.
|
Well hot damn. No more "special disks" and now the reason why this is a burnable option rather than backup manager/HDD isn't ACTUALLY a hardware thing, but a protection-from-legalised-butt-rape thing instead? Curiouser and curiouser.

http://www.ps3crunch.net/forum/threads/1428-True-Blue-(aka)-JB2-Updated-again-to-play-v3.6-PS3-games-from-HDD
2nd update today.
Quote: |
NEWS UPDATE: November 1st, 2011 -- Developers have updated the firmware on-board the 'True Blue' dongle. <- Updated yes again 12 hours later!
After much research andmany hard long days at coding, the solid support team behind the 'True Blue' dongle have now been able to encode all the needed booting information which was previously needed on 'special' BD-R discs, to be included in the dongle's firmware memory, so now v3.6+ games will run correctly when also stored on your PS3 HDD.
Now with this latest firmware update the dongle fully supports booting of all v3.6+ 'backups' to from PS3 HDD using existing 'backup managers' which the end-user will choose to install, making 'True Blue' dongle one of the most affordable ways to enjoy both your Jailbreak-able PS3 console and still play latest v3.6+ games on your v3.55 PS3 console.

FUCKING BOOYA.
3.6+ titles running from HDD. Now I'll buy one of these. Fuck. Yeah.

Sabin, how long do you think it will take to someone releasing a method to downgrade firmware?

Hmm... about minus 2 weeks. Perhaps? It's already out mate. The E3-Flasher can downgrade to 3.55 (though I don't like the sound of their warning about brick risk for changing the FW after that) and there are other flashers like Progskeet too.

I'm waiting until this dongle is put into CFW
I'm not buying another dongle. I did this a year ago and now it's pretty much useless as the CFW works.
Here's hoping someone can make something out of this.

So as far as I understand it, these guys somehow get unencrypted eboots from somewhere (dev psn, decrypt using sony keys) and then encrypt it with their own crypto.
And they sell you the dongle so you can decrypt it, right?

Omg... with all this progress going on, I almost thought I had stumbled into the 360 thread.

As long as Sony doesn't know how they do it, they can't really patch it.

they already changed keys with newest games, doesn't seems to work, what else they can do?
I'm sorry I'm comparing this to the PSP scene(which has weaker protection) ,but now its seems similar case,,Sony changing keys with games, and they still got cracked...(and I'm talking about retail stuff, not PSN,probably didn't changed much but I can be wrong),sure,3.60+ CFW still seems quite far... but we are talking about software stuff, and for people like me,as long we can play newest games it doesn't that matter.

Well that complicates things a tad. Sadly the only way (atm) is via a hardware mod. DEX machines, both original and converts, can downgrade whenever - but sadly CEX can't and the only way on 3.56+ machines is hardware.
