You know, I really have to stop getting excited about things that will probably turn out to suck.

History time kids! -No wait, come back, it will be quick- Back in the mid 70′s a comic magazine by the name of Métal Hurlant (Howling Metal) began being published by the French. -No wait, come back, this is something cool they created. Like kissing and fries.- It was ground breaking, moral shaking and, just simply really cool for the time. Eventually it was adapted into an American version called Heavy Metal, that was much the same and great throughout the 80′s. Heavy Metal was adapted by Canadians into an animated movie by the same name in 1981 (which was awesome) and then in 2000 (Heavy Metal 2000 aka Heavy Metal: F.A.K.K.²) by 50% of the TMNT creative time (and current owner, editor and publisher of the magazine) Kevin Eastman. The second Heavy Metal movie was not awesome.

Now? Word has it that that a live-action TV series based on Métal Hurlant went into production in France. A French-United Kingdom co-production. 24 half hour episodes to be broken up over two seasons, scheduled for European delivery in April 2012 and November 2012 respectively. Featured actors include Rutger Hauer, Scott Adkins, Michael Jai White, Joe Flanigan and James Marsters.

You may have lost me at ‘France’ but you had me at Rutger Hauer and Michael Jai White.

DBZ movie doesn't exist, thus James Marsters could never have played a pathetic character in said non-existent movie Very Happy

So this will be a sort of anthology series, with each episode (or a couple of episodes in a row) being a take on one of the stories in Metal Hurlant? Could be interesting.

I don't know about the original, but Heavy Metal was something sci-fi, wasn't it? Was the original Metal Hurlant medieval or something? Or why is that trailer like that? Scratch Head Oh, I see there are some kind of robots too (really out of place)...

heavy metal was everything. its just animation gone crazy, creepy, weird, and fantastical. the movie (if thats what you're talking about, and not the mags" was a collection of futuristic, swords fantasy, noir'ish drama, zombie horror in a ww2 setting..... its everything

Sorry for the necro, but I've just discovered this series.

Man, this show is fucking epic! It's like a sci-fi variant of Tales from the Crypt - each self-contained episode always manages to surprise you in the end. Its got that perfect mix of surrealism, dark and twisted hopelessness, and even some comedy thrown in the mix (episode 3 for example).

Anyway, apparently this has just started airing in the US on Sci-Fi, but IMDB is useless in determining when Season 2 episodes will/have aired. Have they started airing the English versions of S2 yet? Have any groups bothered with them?

Epic show. Check it out if you haven't!

At least 4 episodes were trailered from season 2. So it should be soon. Last official info was spring 2014.

Hmm, good to know. I hope a Blu-Ray of S2 follows in quick succession (knowing Sci-Fi, they will censor the aired episodes to hell and back).

I just finished watching all of Season 1 in a single sitting and I found it amazing. The last episode, Master of Destiny, was probably the best. The bar fight with the Heavy Metal theme music going on in the background, combined with that ending that can only be described as "poetic", made it pretty damn perfect!

Are there any other shows that are similar to this?

Also, what country does this show air in first? From what I understand it's a joint France/UK production?

It's France - Belgian production. It's first shown in France.
The premiere dates for season two suppose to me 19 April on France 2. But I don't know if they aired it Sad

From similar shows you had Outer Limits (first 4 seasons later it became crap) and Masters of Science Ficition.

There's also Night Visions and The Hunger but I haven't seen either of them and they are more of horror stories from what I have read.

It most certainly is from an effects and props perspective, I'm not denying that. But each episode, taken as a whole, is a nice little surrealistic sci-fi mind fuck. I love em!

@VonMisk

Thanks for all the info man. I'll be checking out Outer Limits today while trying to scrounge together some of S2. People are saying that Sci-Fi is airing some Season 2 episodes already, but near as I can tell no groups have bothered with em.
