What, update the xbox dash with the drive removed?
If that's what you mean, then it won't work. The xbox does a hardware check before it boots. You'll end up with red lights until you reinsert the drive

trouble is, further down the line m$ might be able to stop truncated images working at all. but probably ok for this years releases if you're not bothered about an online ban.

Aye, add the £14 for the drive.. and you're left with nearly a £30 drive, which is insanely expensive for a DVD writer these days. Hell, you can get the Pioneer DVR series for less than that and those are the best DVD writers you can buy.

It is not a claim it is a fact Wink . Liteon is the oem company that produces all the listed devices and all of them are IHASX24 B. I recently crossflashed my ASUS 24B3ST to Plextor PL-L890SA then Liteon iHAS524 B after C4EVA announced.

of course no "real" pioneer burner supported,määäääh. its a shame that they dont build there own anymore.the real ones are much better than any liteon shit etc. i'm a happy owner of a dvr-215(4 years old) and 108(6 years old). both work without any problems ever since

yeah I really don't like it that I have to buy a crap Liteon burner.. but first I am going to try if my burners can overburn the disc.. I have one of the rare brands that support overburn on dvd's.. but I don't have any DL to test right now.

I miss my old Pioneer DVR-110D. That thing lasted me for AGES, but I think it got damaged during transit from UK to Norway, because as soon as I got to Norway it started screwing up... then eventually just died. I've had my Sony Optiarc 7203S ever since.

My current Samsung drive is probably is almost 3 years + now and only having tray ejection issues, but burns perfectly. I won't buy a Lite-On eve again. My first drive was a Lite-On and that went kaput, within a year. Is this really necessary? I mean what's wrong with the current burning method?

It would become mandatory only when they put checks[no chance developers would put content would degrade the performance] on edge of disc.

Forza 4 have new checks ( CIV ) , probably future games will have this too...that's why you need specific burner and new fw for it.. Other games that you mentioned doesn't have this check and they are working fine.

so as for now the only way to play Forza (and possible future games) is too have LT2.0 and burn 0800 image on specific burner flashed with c4e fw?

btw I have Lite-On IHAS124 withiut "B"
C4e lists iHAS124B... are those the same?

Some ppl report that they are playing Forza 4 without any problems , some say they got errors after 5 mins of playing..some after 10 hours , and ofc it's not Live safe. If you don't want to worry about that stuff you will have to buy new burner and flash it. Verbatim DLs are also recomended.

As for your burner..name of the brands are specific , so I think not..
