Quote: | Bethesda have confirmed that they're not working on Skyrim mod support for consoles.
Speaking to IncGamers, Skyrim art director Mike Carofano spoke about his admiration for the PC mod community, but confirmed it's not yet on the cards for consoles.
"The mod community have done some really amazing stuff with our previous games, so we’re really excited to give them the tools to allow them to do that again." said Carofano.
"We’d like to bring that same thing to console but it’s not in the works yet, hopefully that’s something we can do in the future."
Better news for PC players:
"There’s a whole new editor that we’re hoping to release right around the same time as the game. We’re still not sure of the exact day."
Carofano continued by saying that packaging the best PC mods as console DLC content is something that Bethesda are talking about. "We’re not sure about that yet, but it is something we’ve been talking about. I really hope we can do something like that.
Look out for our full interview with Mike Carofano later this week. |

I don't think mods are suitable for consoles - minor ones may work but major mods may not due to hardware limitation.

Console mods....hmmmm.....this will be a bit of a first.
Who will release them? Who will QA them? Who will ensure they don't conflict with other mods?
IF Bethesda manages to QA them and release them on console, that will truly be amazing.

Meh, if they ever try porting mods over a future Elder Scrolls, it will probably small mods that don't affect gameplay significantly.
Since most interesting mods that modify the gameplay in a significant way need an external dll like OBSE, and also need a program to load them in the correct order and requires the creation of a patch to eliminate conflicts between mods, it's quite certain the inclusion of those mods won't see the light of day on a console.
All they could expect is small mods like houses, clothing/armor, new dungeons, and nothing that would overwrite the original game ressources.

If the modders get paid for their work of course, I can't believe a modder would be comfortable with Bethesda, Microsoft and Sony profiteering over his creation for nothing.

Bethesda owns everything that was created using their tools, they clearly state so in the EULA you must agree before you can download it.
Here from New Vegas:
"If You distribute or otherwise make available New Materials*, You automatically grant to Bethesda Softworks the irrevocable, perpetual, royalty free, sublicensable right and license under all applicable copyrights and intellectual property rights laws to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, perform, display, distribute and otherwise exploit and/or dispose of the New Materials (or any part of the New Materials) in any way Bethesda Softworks, or its respective designee(s), sees fit. You also waive and agree never to assert against Bethesda Softworks or its affiliates, distributors or licensors any moral rights or similar rights, however designated, that You may have in or to any of the New Materials. If You commit any breach of this Agreement, Your right to use the Editor under this Agreement shall automatically terminate, without notice."

The worst part is consolefucktards are all for them taking mods and charging for them. Hilarious.
Quote: | Please, Bethesda, steal other people's creations and charge for them cause we are completely retarded and will pay for anything! |
If modders actually got over 50% of the earnings I wouldn't care, but that's not gonna be the case if they'd do it.
Also, they better have mod tools on release day. The PC version is gonna be lazy enough so the least they can do is have people fix it from day 1.

Honestly, I believe modders won't see a penny from any sales arising from porting mods as DLC to the console versions. Bethesda will just pull the copyright issue, about how mods were made using Bethesda assets for Bethesda games using Bethesda tools.

My biggest concern is whether they've fixed the CTD issues that's been infesting Oblivion, FO3, and FO:NV.
I've never managed to get any of those fully stable. Even the console versions crashed on occasion, which is a pretty weak state of affairs.

If they are going to package the mods as DLCs it's highly unlikely they would charge for them. (Why would you even assume they would? It doesn't make much sense even from Bethesdas perspective).
But MS/Sony will not allow mods anyway, or maybe just very limited ones.

Sony has allowed mods from UT3 before but MS will never allow free content onto their servers without the customer paying for it.
Btw will the mod tools be different this time as the skyrim engine is different isnt it?

There are free DLCs on xbox live.
UT3 only allowed new maps, which as much as we could expect from Skyrim. Although I doubt Bethesda will go through such trouble as they would need an Xbox specific tool like Forge in Halo.
In any case they were free, which was my point.

No lock-on targeting while fighting - i think this is no con, it's great
Can’t attack while jumping (in the air) - some say, there is a perk to unlock for jump-attacking
Blocking and parrying limited to shields and certain weapons - how is that bad?
Internet - the place where Men are Men, Women are Men, and little girls are FBI agents.
